Why the fuck am I even reading Superman? Cause I’m all like, “I’m a DC guy and I have to read Superman cause its their flagship title!” but that’s a bullshit excuse. This Superman series is bullshit – it’s been bullshit since the start of the New 52 and possibly even a little bullshitty before.

Why?

Why can’t DC fucking get Superman right? I know they got it in them – I mean they get Batman right all the goddamn time. They recently got Green Arrow right as well – another motherfucker that has a history of stinking of manure – but Superman? Fuck no. The only time DC gets Superman right is when it’s in the form of a miniseries like “All-Star Superman” or “Birthright” or a alternate universe Superman book like “Red Son”. But when it comes to the main series, it has pretty much always sucked the saggy scrotum of that three eye giant from “Saga”.

I read this issue today and was thinking, “I don’t think I have ever liked anything Scott Lobdell has written, ever. He is a washed up comedian that got lucky when Chris Claremont suddenly left the X-Men and Marvel needed a “Yes man” quick. Lobdell writes with a view of popular culture that still rings of 1993. He is in so many words “out of touch”. But here he is, writing one of the biggest, if not THE biggest, superhero ever – and boring the hell out of everyone.

And here I am still buying this title cause I’m retarded for DC and want them to get their shit together – but man it’s hard being a “DC Guy” these days.

  1. i agree superman has had a hard time i just gave up on this and action.with action it was the change to tony daniel not that i hate daniel its just because i think he should write or draw.with this superman tite its has been a hard thing two read.i love dc and superman but with these problems in his 2 big books and snyder’s superman being five dollars i think the only superman book i will read is batman/superman i like the idea and i like batman.

    • I am looking forward to Snyder and Lee’s Superman Unchained – but man I hope Jim Lee doesn’t fuck things up like he did with Justice League. He is all about Two Page Spreads and fights – which are nice and all, but Snyder’s gift lies in the subtle moments and Lee doesn’t do “subtle”.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

    • i agree that it will be good i will pick up the hardcover by problem is there only doing twelve issue i hear then the book ends or we will have 3 bad superman books wish they would had done the story in action instead of making a new 5 dollar book.

  2. “The only time DC gets Superman right is when it’s in the form of a miniseries….”

And that’s the point I think. Superman books would probably function far better if they were a series of mini-series’ rather than as a monthly title.

    • What is it about the character that is so hard to nail? Morrison did it once with All-Star but his Action run was nowhere near that level of writing – maybe he was just too busy planning Damien’s death to really give the book his full attention.

Is it what Superman represents? Truth, Justice and all that jazz that writers aren’t allowed to take risks with his characterization in fear of upsetting the masses? Maybe, but DC needs to realize that the majority of people already have that “motif” in their consciousness and nothing is going to change that – not even a comic book story arc in which a talented writer is given carte blanche to throw away the status quo and shake things up (once again using Morrison as an example of what he did in the main Batman series with R.I.P).

I don’t know man. I just wish that I could actually enjoy reading the adventures of the first super-hero – the dude that started this all – but those kind of reads are few and far between.

  3. I think your Lodbell-hate is preventing you from even giving this book a chance.

I agree Superman has been a pretty big bust in the New 52, but I thought this issue was pretty interesting – it’s the best issue of Superman I have read so far in the New 52. I know that might not be saying much, but I was intrigued by Orion and Hector Hammond, looking like he should and not some seedy creep like he was in the GL movie.

    • Bro, I’ve been giving this book a chance for 18 Months – even before Lobdell came aboard and still haven’t enjoyed the book. That’s just not right dude, I should be LOVING Superman but I haven’t and it ticks me off.

And the fact that Orion and hector Hammond are the most intriguing aspects of the issue just highlight my issues with this title – Superman should be who we are interested in.

Also, yeah I may have been a little hard Lobdell. I actually liked the first few issues of his New 52 Superboy – but it too started to suck after awhile.
