I want to take this opportunity to thank DC Comics for not putting out anything this week, for it allowed me to spend my weekly comics money on titles I don’t normally buy – Uncanny X-Men, The Ultimates, and Daredevil.

If DC had put out their normal books, I would have passed on the Marvel titles and maybe got them other day. But my saver box at the comic shop was empty and that money was burning a hole in my pocket.

Let me just say that that was money well spent.

What a blast I had reading Daredevil! I got caught up with issues 1 thru 5 and holy shit, this series is possibly one of the best things out right now in the world of comics. I love the retro feel of the story and art. Mark Waid is writing the shit out of this book – every issue is jammed packed with smart, intelligent dialog that doesn’t feel forced or pretentious. It also isn’t boring and Waid is able to hold your attention in the exposition scenes.

This is not a fight of month book. This is not punch after punch. There is a great story being weaved here and it just so happens that it stars Daredevil who occasionally fights a bad guy.

I love how it pretty much took 6 issues for there to a giant two page spread of Daredevil fighting a villain. The build up to this scene is fantastic and it feels rewarding to get that dynamic splash page. Too many times comics start off the story with these huge fights from the get go – there is no anticipation – there is no drama – it’s just pretty art in your face. But here, in issue 6 of Daredevil we get those pages and man does it work and man does it get the heart pumping and make you smile and say to yourself, “fucking a’ this is a rad comic!”

So yeah, thank you DC. You just made me a Daredevil fan.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. So it finally took a review of a Marvel comic to get your review on the podcast…interesting.. seriously, congrats and your reviews are always entertaining

    • Thank you!

They may not be the most eloquently written reviews and my grammar is atrocious (I mean really, two “shits” in one review?) but I am having fun – glad you dig them. =)

  2. Yeah, man, good job getting on the podcast!
