“Greetings Programs!”
I kept waiting for that line to show up in this latest issue of Batman Inc, but I guess Disney has it copyrighted. And really, it’s too bad that line, or some variation of it, didn’t show up in a Bruce Wayne word bubble – at least then we would know Grant was in on the joke. So yes, this issue is TRON all the way, and at first reading I couldn’t help but make comparisons to the movie (more the sequel “TRON LEGACY” then the first one), but like all good Morrison comics, you have to read it twice (or 26 times in the case of Final Crisis) to grasp everything he is throwing at you and on my second reading I was able to put the TRONisms aside and get into this story – and I liked it. I liked it quiet a bit. Is this as good as Batman Inc issues 1 through 7? No. Is this better then David Finch’s Dark Knight issues 1 thru 5 all put together? Oh hell yes.

In this issue Bruce Wayne has is having a “Conference Call” with his investors using new technology where they enter the computer world via Avatars and are able to transverse this digital world just like the real one. Things are real here – or real enough. Well, turns out one of the investors has brought in with them a computer virus that hijacks the conference and 3D action ensues. Wayne must then control TWO avatars in order to bring Batman into the digital realm – which turns out to be harder then he thought.

Batman in Africa? Check
Batman in London? Check
Batman in China? Check
Batman in New Mexico? Check
Batman in the Internet? uh…..yeah….Check!

So now the DC Universe can rest easy at knowing that their MACS and PC’s are safe because there is a Digital Batman on patrol in the Interwebs. Which honestly is about time considering Darkseid used the Internet to spread his Anti-Life Equation in Final Crisis. If there had been Digital Bat’s around then he wouldn’t have gotten has far as he did.

All in all I liked this issue and looking forward to the fall when things get back and track and Batman Inc continues to spread its wings over the world.
