A COUPLE OF REASONS DETECTIVE COMICS IS STARTING TO SUCK

1. ART – The first issue of DET featured some pretty great art by Tony Daniel, who has always been an “okay” artist. Nothing to write home about. But it seemed judging from issue 1 that things were taking a turn for the better and there were some outstanding panels on display here (hell, even the iFanboy guys choose to highlight this issue in their “Best Panels of the Week” article. But now at issue 4 Daniel’s pencils just look tired and by the numbers. Gone is that hard edge. Sloppy work.

2. STORY – Again we see Tony Daniel falling back into mediocre storytelling – something his Batman run suffered from. The first 2 issues of DET the stakes felt high and the pacing Daniel moved the story at made the book an electric read. The last page of issue 1 had us ALL hooked. But one page of a ripped off Joker’s face is not enough to keep us hooked for long. We need some resolution on this storyline. I’m all for building up suspense and and stuff but come on, enough with this boring ass Dollmaker dude.

This title is now in danger of being dropped.
