This is one of the trippiest comics that I have read in a long time, and that’s a good thing….

Evidently, James Robinson’s efforts on this comic did not fit into DC editorial’s grand plans for their universe, so Robinson…

Whoa! This comic is some heavy stuff, almost too heavy! I have been reading comics for almost (yikes!) forty years,…

June 18, 2013 8:22 am This is an intriguing idea for a comic. The only other example of a comic about a romantically involved couple I can think of is Cloak and Dagger, and I believe they have only starred in miniseries. I am one of the fans of "Man of Steel," and that film really got me looking forward to a Justice League film, where a romantic dynamic between Supes and WW could be very interesting. Henry Cavill's Superman is kind of shy, retiring, and unsure of his place in the world. Wonder Woman knows who she is -- princess, demigod, warrior trained in the martial arts by Ares himself. It would stand to reason that WW would be the more confident and assertive of the pair.
June 15, 2013 7:00 pm Why are people blaming Superman for destroying Metropolis (which interestingly, is never called Metropolis in the film)? The Kryptonians were destroying Metropolis, and the earth with their terraforming. Supes' first order of business was to halt the terraforming if any human was going to be left alive. (Spoilers) Also, Zod had to die. How else would Supes end his rampage, since Zod had avoided being sucked into the Phantom Zone? Why are people saying this film had no heart? It had little humor, but there were some lovely moments of poignancy. Pa Kent saying, "You are my son." Pa Kent's death in which he sacrifices himself for his son. Ma Kent saying how fearful she was for Clark as a baby when she heard him struggling for breath. If I remember correctly, she said she slept on the floor by his crib in order to monitor him.
June 14, 2013 11:48 pm I enjoyed this film and I am confident that it is critic proof. It will make a lot of money, and will spawn more Superman and DC comics movies. A lot of critics, including Paul, I think, went into this film having had their expectations conditioned by the Marvel movies, which have had a clearer delineation between hero and villain, good and bad . The conflict in "Man of Steel" is not black and white, and I see that as a strength. The story is nuanced. The movie may seem "joyless" because it never loses sight of the melancholy of Krypton's demise. Kal-El is learning who he is. You have to expect a certain amount of somberness when he learns that his people are no more. General Zod is not a simple, sadistic villain motivated by streak of pure evil. Zod actually has a noble cause. It is the manner in which he tries to achieve his aims which is wrong. I even think the design aesthetic for Krypton is wonderfully creative and appropriate. Krypton is dark, because its society has some fundamental flaws. The Kryptonians have made some mistakes which lead to their own extinction, although that extinction is still sad and out of proportion to their errors.
June 13, 2013 9:54 pm This battle certainly deserves a film, since it changed the course of history. If the Greeks did not defeat the Persians -- no Western civilization. I think the "sword and sandal" genre will always be relevant. It's just that Hollywood will produce a spate of bad movies set in the classical era, they will do poorly, and everyone will say that the genre is officially out of style. "Spartacus" seems to have been a decent hit on TV, and there are huge video game sword and sandal franchises, so Hollywood is probably encouraged.
June 13, 2013 4:44 pm If you were a god, you would be perfectly happy to have people refer to your "puissance." In fact, you would probably demand that they use the term when describing you.
June 13, 2013 4:24 pm The Asgardians need regular doses of the golden apples of Idunn in order to maintain their puissance and essential immortality. Without partaking of the apples, Asgardians become essentially human. How are Gorr's Asgardian captives getting their necessary doses of Idunn's apples?
June 10, 2013 6:00 pm The best Superman story I've read in a long time is Avengers #13.
June 7, 2013 7:59 pm Is the lovely She-Hulk going to continue in FF as well as this title? Now that her own book is being cancelled, Red She-Hulk should join the Avengers. Red really grew on me in her own title.
June 3, 2013 8:53 pm Why is Nick Spencer co-writing this title?
May 28, 2013 4:24 pm I suspect that if the next Captain America movie does well, the Falcon will very likely be joining the Avengers in "Avengers II." If Marvel doesn't add some color (and I don't just mean green) to the Avengers franchise, they will get a ton of criticism.
