This is a very fun issue of “Heroes
for Hire.” Abnett and Lanning have
proven that they can write street level material just as well as the cosmic
stuff, and in this issue, they show that they can write witty banter. This is an action and dialogue heavy issue
with Paladin fighting Ninjas and Batroc “zee leaper.” Along the way, Paladin runs into Spider-Man,
who is written true to character with humorous patter. The relationship between Misty Knight and
Paladin develops with Misty teasing Paladin for his mercenary ways. Paladin says that he craves respect, and
Misty says, “Honey, I’ll leave your respect next to your cash on the
nightstand.” It looks like Spidey will
be one of the potential “heroes for hire” whom Misty can call upon, although the
web-slinger only works for altruistic reasons.
The art in this comic is top
notch. Brad Walker’s characters aren’t
always pretty, because he has a knack for making them look like real
people. Walker does an excellent job
with anatomy, and he draws a cool Spider-Man.
Art: 5 - Excellent
