"FF" #4 is ridiculously sweet and cute, but surprisingly successful. This concept in lesser hands than those of Matt Fraction could have gone terribly wrong, but Fraction deftly handles both the comedy and the romance in this done in one story. Is the show “The Little Rascals” still playing in repeats somewhere on cable? If you are familiar with the “Rascals” concept, you will recognize the tone of this story. The moloid children have a crush on She-Hulk, and they are determined to keep her from smooching Wyatt Wingfoot during a date, so they enlist the aid of Bentley-23. Bentley devises various “evil mastermind” schemes, all of which go awry. In fact, there is an episode of “The Little Rascals” in which the kids try to break up what they think is a romance between their beloved teacher and a man who they think is her boyfriend, because they don’t want the teacher to get married and quit. As it turns out, the boyfriend is actually the teacher’s brother. This issue is in the spirit of that TV show. The conversation between She-Hulk and Wingfoot is tremendously well written in that it is natural and believable. At the end of the evening, Jen confesses to Wyatt that he was the proverbial “one who got away.” Michael Allred’s adult figures strike me as being out of proportion, with the lower parts of the bodies being too small relative to the torsos, but I’m going to forgive this flaw, since so much of the rest of the art is delightful. Allred draws faces that are extraordinarily expressive. The looks of frustration on Bentley-23’s face as one plan after another fails is marvelous. The full page, abstract dance scene in which Jen and Wyatt strike various poses amidst a "diagram" of footprints is ingenious. This is another great issue in a series that thus far has never failed to supply excellent entertainment.
