Fred Van Lente is telling a really complicated, but interesting story involving politics and commerce in this first story arc.  Someone is using Stark technology in a conflict much like the one that took place in the former Yugoslavia in the ‘90’s.  We don’t know who has been stealing Tony’s designs yet, but so far this story has pulled in the Melter (or at least his weapon design) Dr. Doom, the Dreadknight (haven’t seen him in a while) and Radioactive Man.  Van Lente has shown a mastery of Iron Man continuity both with the use of former villains and his understanding of what makes Iron Man so much fun, such as the incorporation of lots of cool gadgets in the armor.  The decoy system is used in this arc for the first time in years, I believe, and lots of other fun weapons show up.  I’m a little skeptical that Doom would ever admit that Tony Stark could invent something he would find interesting or useful, though.  The pencils by Steve Kurth (who drew Warren Ellis’ Ultimate Armor Wars mini) are top notch.  I love the grace he gives to the Dreadknight’s bat-winged horse, for instance.
