Now, THIS is an inspired concept. It kind of reminds me of old school Fantastic Four stories where the FF was always going off into the Negative Zone or outer space and exploring freaky scientific concepts. Kashmir Vennema is one of the most original villains to be introduced in the Marvel universe in a long time. She doesn’t just travel through the multiverse, she exploits it in a way that Kang probably wishes he had thought of exploiting time travel. I like the way that Cullen Bunn is not just writing one off team-up stories; he’s linking them with a common villain and co-stars who keep showing up to play small roles. Vennama first showed up when Cap teamed up with Iron Man, and Shell Head, (Why doesn’t anyone call him that anymore? Would Robert Downey object?) showed up briefly again last issue. I hope Bunn eventually brings this kind of creativity to “Venom,” since his last story arc for that title fell rather flat. If the art for this issue had been as polished as it was for last issue, I would give it five stars. This issue seems a bit less detailed and sketchier. It wouldn’t surprise me if Francesco Francavilla were rushed, because judging from the credits, he handles penciling, inking and coloring all by himself. Perhaps the art is computer generated, but it appears to be created the old fashioned way to me. Nonetheless, the art is handsomely executed, and the coloring lends a moody, surreal feel that is appropriate to the story.
