I’m surprised by how much I am enjoying this title.  I suspect that Sean McKeever is big fan of Stan Lee’s run on the early “Spider-Man,” since this comic has a somewhat similar, although grittier, tone.  The heroes are young and conflicted, torn between their desire to be heroes and their more mundane responsibilities, like school.  Firestar in particular becomes testy when she is drawn away from her graduate studies only to find out nothing important is happening.  Her attitude strikes me as being quite realistic.  The Bastards of Evil are a truly sadistic bunch who enjoy putting down even each other, but they appear to be engaging in acts of terror on behalf of another villain who has yet to appear.  Baldeon and Sotomayor’s art is very stylized with angular faces, but the bold lines and abundance of detail make it easy to follow.
