October 17, 2011 5:06 pm Great to see Avengers 1959 again so soon, and Batman and Wonder Woman are enticing to see, Love the look of Wolverine, and I'm glad to see the end of Fear Itself. BQ: " Run", clearly,
October 14, 2011 3:05 pm I remember these exact same feelings a couple of years ago when I moved. Oh the guilt I felt as the movers struggled with those longboxes..so much so that I even helped out despite how much we were paying them! While I don't know how much I've cut back my monthly reading (if I did at all), but I'm certainly less precious about holding on to it all. Having looked at those boxes and realised what a small proportion I had ever gone back to I knew that all I was doing was hoarding paper, so if I can sell the odd thing along and buy some more weekly comics or collections or whatever, then why not? It's not quite what Tom's getting at possibly, but I feel like I've been in a similar kinda place.
October 10, 2011 4:23 pm Survival of the Fittest and Ultimate Spidey are probably top of the list, although the Batbooks, Shalvey's Northlanders and a new Punisher Max HC are also a pretty good bunch of reasons to get me to the store. BQ: You have no idea how much I wish I was, but no, I will be working..
October 3, 2011 4:08 pm Do we ever have a small week these days? Great line up of new DC sophomore issues but more importantly...Avengers 1959!!! Sweet. BQ: My family, travelling to foreign cities, 70s movies, ice cream and really good cheesecake...and apple pie. Seriously, how does one narrow this down?
September 30, 2011 7:32 am Great pick, great surprise that the book was this good. Much as I love the speed force elements that Waid created all those years back, I love that this book seems to dial everything back to the core of what makes Flash great...the simple fact that superspeed is just a really cool power. Nice also that the conflict is a new one and suitably "sci-fi". As for the art, I'm not sure there's anything to add, it's just glorious, both the pencils and the colours. Sweet stuff all round.
September 29, 2011 11:48 am Whereas I loved Frankencastle, along with all the different things Remender (and some awesome artists) did. Although it's definitely not a good place to start. The Fraction series before it is also underrated with some great single issue stories and some lovely Chaykin art later in the run. I also like those War Zone issues by Chuck Dixon with art by John Romita Jr.
September 26, 2011 4:20 pm Some quality Marvel this week with the Ultimate books, Wolverine and Cap/Bucky. I'm going to try Flash (mainly on the basis of the pencil work I've seen) and I'm tempted by I Vampire for the same reason. The other books from the relaunch I'm happy to wait for trades if the word is really good. Oh, and I'm inexplicably looking forward to Holy Terror. I know it could very well be a car crash in comic form...but I'm fascinated just the same and I still love Miller's art. BQ: Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy...grown up filmmaking. Just men talking in rooms and a real actor's showcase. Oldman puts everyone else to shame. Thank god we're heading into that time of the year for movies.
September 21, 2011 5:54 pm A great and surprising read...never would hav thought I'd love a Wonder Woman book since the Hiketia. It just felt like a current take, with enough intrigue to bring me back for more. There was plenty happening without it being at all confusing. And man, that art, woah.
September 19, 2011 4:51 am thank you Josh for giving such eloquent voice to this fanboy dilemma. I've lost track of the number of times I've tried and failed to declutter my obsessions....there's always something new to peak the interest. I try to keep in mind the fact that as a child I could make the smallest amount of comics or books last and last, and I had no need to watch a movie anywhere other than a theatre or on a video rental. Unfortunately the disposable income of adulthood som etimes gives us a little too much freedom. Still it's gratifying to see people posting about how willing they are to enjoy things, like single issues, and then just pass them on or sell them....there is no obscure fanboy law that says if you don't hoard you're not a real fan.
September 12, 2011 4:42 pm I'm not getting all the dc books but I am looking forward to the new Batman books for this week. Might pick up Frankenstein tho as Animal Man was so good. Then Daredevil, Scalped, Severed, Ultimate Spidey, American Vampire and the Sweets trade among others. Great week. BQ: Right now? West Wing series one again.
