Overall the New Krypton storyline has really impressed me, even if I have missed those sunning Gary Frank pencils (yes, Woods is a decent replacement, but he's no Frank).  It happened that I only caught up with the pen ultimate chapter in Superman 683 last night and I was really jazzed for the finale.  It was something I guess we've seen before, but that last shot of the magic heroes really got me excited (and it looked to be a logical way of ending a storyline that was going to be tough to conclude).

So, in all honesty I was a little disappointed by this comic.  For the sake of fitting in with the F.O.E. promotion we had the Luthor/Lane prologue which I felt really slowed things down.  In the end Zatanna's team seemed like kind of an afterthought, the only highpoint of their assault being Freddy Freeman cutting loose and taking out a tenth of the Kryptonian forces.

That said, there were interesting points and for the most part it was a satisfying conclusion to the bigger picture of New Krypton.  For a start I'm glad it's still here, as I think the people of Kandor enrich the cast of characters and progress the overall Superman storyline.  And why shouldn't they be able to build a new planet?  They're an advanced race and, if nothing else, that kind of thing is the magic of comics!  It wrapped things up but also set out an interesting status quo as we go into another year.  I've often thought that Superman's "rogues gallery" is sometimes lacking and, even if the people of Kandor are harder to categorise than just villains, they do add an interesting dimension. So good stuff then, but points taken away for a missed opportunity.
