Much like last issue. this story would have made for another fitting swansong (yet there's still one more issue to go). I'm a fan of Morrison's Batman and like the way he's trying to do different things with the character, but for a nostalgia fix I go for Tomasi's Nightwing. This is a guy that just understands everything I loved about the Batman world when I was growing up. Now I can also say that he understands what makes Ras Al Ghul one of the best villains. He was perfect here - arrogant and manipulative but with that respect for Batman that makes him Moriarty to Bruce's Holmes.
From start to finish I just wallowed in this book, and I mean that in a good way. I mean Dick fires up the 60s Batmobile when he fights the ninjas! Glorious! If this is finishing next month all I can do is plead that Tomasi is given something similar, and that Dick Grayson is still front and centre somewhere in the Batuniverse. Within the pages of this issue Grayson proves just why he could bring something new to the Batman persona, whilst replacing Bruce without anyone missing a beat. I mean, after that final page, is there even any need for a Battle For The Cowl limited series?
