Let me get one thing off my chest: the scripting needs work.  Damian doesn't use the contraction, "gonna" or the phrase, "my bad".  Alfred doesn't use phrases involving locks and GPS.  While the opening sequence in Wayne Manor that brings the various Bat-chaps together for a movie night is kinda fun, the references to setting the flatscreen TV up correctly ring a little false.

With that out of the way however, everything else kind of worked for me.  The old Tomasi characterisation is there and spot on.  It's always this aspect that I look at closely in a Batman book, because with so much history that's so ingrained I think the personalities need to be consistent.  Alfred is fatherly, Dick is getting comfortable and leaderly in the Batman guise and Damian is as snippy as he should be.  His Jim Gordon is pretty good too.

In terms of story it continues the precedent that both Morrison and Cornell set with the book.  There's a compelling mystery that we really have absolutely no clue about, which is set up in the most bizarre and outlandish manner possible.  He even throws us old school fans a bone in the form of Kirk Langstrom's Man-Bat, and as always it's not entirely clear whether he's villain or victim.  It all zips along at the kind of pace Morrison set with his stunning run on the book, ably assisted with some fine pencils from Patrick Gleason.  I'm not sure everybody will be onboard with his somewhat stylised take on a Bat-book, but it impressed me.  It's very kinetic and he has a lot of fun with the all the rooftop scenes and capes.  There's even elements of Frank Quitely creeping in, particularly in the manor scene at the start.

I had high hopes for this run as I love what Tomasi did with Nightwing a couple of years back, and it's already clear he hasn't forgotten how to write Mr Grayson.  Everything else shows some real promise for what he's got lined up, making it clear that the renaissance in the Bat universe is continuing unabated.
