April 15, 2011 10:57 am Actually, no. Booster's book is off doing it's own thing right now. It's worth picking up if you like the character, but it's not supplementary reading to JLGL at the moment.
April 15, 2011 1:31 am Coming out of last issue, I was pretty sure that this issue would be mostly about fighting OMACs, which (a) is not interesting, and (b) this series has already done. But what ended up happening still feels like a time-wasting fight to me, given that the exciting stuff is happening with Booster.
April 14, 2011 8:04 pm I have probably the lowest expectations for this book of anyone who comments on it regularly, and this was a really lame issue.
April 5, 2011 1:21 am I'm torn about the preview. On the one hand, how the heck Magneto is on the team without the rest of the world minding is something UXM should probably address sooner or later, and I love the way Mags is being written in the preview.

On the other hand, I wish this could be played for comedy. Also that Magneto would somehow be forced to wear that hideous outfit the PR lady suggested. Come on, Maggie! It's not like you've never worn worse!
March 29, 2011 3:22 pm @Apothesize I'm not sure that's true. For one thing, there really isn't a difference between the two universes any more except who lives there (and that Marvel has douchier civilians). DC's silver age may have been bright and crazy, but they're at least even with Marvel on the grittiness scale these days.

Also, has Marvel had any really successful dark/gritty films? Their three big movie franchises are Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Iron Man, none of whom are particularly gritty.
March 25, 2011 1:02 am @conor He was always more of a disapproving parent than a standard team leader. If this was JLI Classic, it would make sense for him to come in and take control of everything, because that team was sort of out of control. Nowadays, when everybody's been acting like responsible adults for the whole series, having Batman just immediately resume leadership feels cheap, like Winnick is saying "These guys you've been following around for 21 issues? Yeah, they were fine when the plot mostly involved running around being clueless, but now that we need to have real plot movement, it's time to bring in the grown-ups."
March 23, 2011 7:21 pm @brassai2003: JLGL isn't being cancelled. Its run was shortened a little bit (which I'm sad about mostly because it makes the few of filler issues so much more annoying), but it was always meant to be a limited series.

That said, should it spin off into an ongoing? Hells yeah. Issue 21 was one of the series' best, and I'd love to see Winnick be able to do more character-interaction stuff with this team.
March 21, 2011 2:35 pm I wish Guy could be the other new teammate, but with War of the Green Lanterns kicking off this week, that seems unlikely.
March 11, 2011 12:49 pm @kennyg: Oh, man. That was awful. XD
