The infodump at the beginning of the issue was kind of onerous. The first five issues of this series built up the secret deal between Guy, Ganthet, and Atrocicus, so it was a bit of a letdown to just have it explained. It felt a lot more like the plot was being vomited up than the actual literal plot-vomit from last issue.

Speaking of vomit, I don’t really get what everyone sees in Bleez. She’s hot, I guess, but
her backstory is standard-issue Damaged Woman stuff, and her dialogue
reads like something a 13-year-old would write if she was trying to
sound deep. The GL books are often sort of overblown (and don’t get me wrong, that’s something I love), but Bleez is written way too ridiculously for me to care about her at all.

But the fight scene at the end of the issue was good, and the scene between Guy, Kilowog, and Arisa, infodump aside, was probably my favorite moment of this series so far. I’m glad Tomasi got to bring most of his cast from GLC with him when he switched books, because he writes ’em all really well. It makes sense, in this scene, why all three characters feel the way they do, and their actions feel organic.

I ended up with Felipe Massafera’s variant cover this week, and holy moly is it pretty. I’ve been liking DC’s white covers in general, but at heart, I’m a huge Guy fangirl, and thus was more than happy to get the variant. So. Pretty.

Pasarin’s interior art isn’t as pretty, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. The opening splash page was kind of uncomfortable, but upon reflection, I totally love it, and the art’s overall just really solid, as it’s been for the whole series.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Wog is a pretty ugly dude, Pasarin probably woulda been pleased with your reaction there to the first page.

Bleez’s appeal to me is that she’s so primal, I don’t think it’d fit if she sounded any more sophisticated than she does.  That’s one nifty weapon she’s got there taking out those sentries btw.

Didn’t have too much of a problem with the “infodump” scene, because it was time for Guy to spill the beans, but did have a problem with Wog and Arisia abandoning him right there at a time he was going to need them most.  Didn’t seem consistent to me in terms of the concern they showed for Guy when they first started their journey, now they’re just leaving, and after they know now who they’re up against?  I have a feeling they’re just taking a timeout to calm down and gather themselves.
