Oh, John, I really missed you. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how well Bedard writes him–John seems to be the toughest GL for writers to pull off, but Bedard is doing a great job. I know not everybody will agree with this, but I’m honestly fine with Kyle taking a backseat to John in this issue, and if the series as a whole continues that trend, I won’t be too upset. That’s nothing against Kyle, but John so rarely gets any love.

As for the plot, it’s kind of hard on my suspension of disbelief that everyone doesn’t immediately suspect that the Alphas are up to no good. C’mon, cast of GLC, when has the Alphas doing anything ever been good news? You should expect this kind of crap from them. What was a little more unexpected was the identity of our (probable) Big Bad. I had kind of lost track of that character, but it’s great to see him back in action, even if I don’t know what hole he popped out of.

I’m still not totally sold on the art, though. It’s good art, don’t get me wrong, but it feels a little too… realistic for this title. If that sounds like an insane complaint, it probably is, but I wish the art was a little more exaggerated and epic.
