This comic would be a lot better if it came out monthly. That’s not to say that this isn’t a good issue, or that the comic on the whole hasn’t been really good so far, but there’s a huge drop in tension when I have to wait a long time for something to come out. On the bright side, this is one case where I’m really grateful for the recap page.

The other thing I wasn’t too thrilled with in this issue was Dr. Doom, who seemed much too levelheaded and willing to explain himself. I prefer Doom a little more Silver-Age maniacal, I guess, and the reason he’s with Wanda (who remains powerless so far, despite the cover) was pretty much “because we need them to be together for the plot to work.” I’m really hoping it was magic or something, because having a character like Doom admit that he doesn’t know why he did something isn’t good writing if it’s not foreshadowing something.

Aside from Doom, everyone else worked pretty well here, I thought. Heinberg writes Wiccan as well as ever, which is good, because Billy is the focal character for most of this issue. I was also particularly happy to see Wanda making decisions for herself, since she was pretty much a MacGuffin for the first three issues.

Jim Cheung’s art is, of course, great, as it has been for the whole series. I wish I had more to say about it, but when something is good across the board, it’s hard to find a way to stretch out talking about it.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. Really good explanation of Dr. Doom, I felt like something was off as well.
