There isn’t a lot I can say about this issue while still remaining spoiler-free. Suffice it to say that it’s completely crazy, and also a great change of pace from the chase plot of the overall book. I’ve never been a Captain Atom fan, and I still don’t care much about him, but the feeling of “Aw, man, a Captain Atom issue?” I got when I opened the book and saw his narration boxes was completely unwarranted. And, hey, Ice didn’t have any lines this issue, which makes this the most accurate characterization of her that Winick has managed so far.

The art is pretty stiff in places, especially at the beginning of the book, but there’s one absolutely great splash page, and also a panel of a little girl staring at Atom’s crotch and remarking about how shiny it is. So that makes up for a lot.
