Aaand now it feels like we're back to spinning our wheels. I said last issue that I was worried that this issue was going to be another big, pointless fight scene, but I was only mostly right.
I don't know a thing about the Creature Commandos. They're a cool-looking bunch of freaks, but they're not used to any interesting effect here. You could have replaced them with a completely generic group of superpowered thugs and the effect would have been exactly the same. I guess Winnick couldn't have resolved last issue's cliffhanger so neatly, but that was kind of weaksauce anyhow. If you're going to bother giving a character a life-threatening injury, it's not very dramatic if they're fully healed in the next issue.
The fact that Bea is completely better now made all of her talk with Ice completely pointless. There's a lot of good drama that could be mined from these two coming to terms with Fire's impending death, but it was all deflated by Magical Healing Mummy.
So what keeps this issue from being a total waste of ink? Other characters getting suspicious again. True, that sort of didn't come to anything either, but watching Peeg and Bats try to puzzle out what's going on is a lot more interesting, story-wise, than watching the JLI have another random encounter.
Dagnino's art is a pretty mixed bag, too. Some characters (Ice, Cap'n Atom, Beetle) look fine, but then there are panels like the one on the where Bea's head and face are drawn completely differently than in the rest of the issue (or, for that matter, than she's ever been drawn), or one of Booster where either one of his legs is connected wrong or he's got Tupperware shoved down his suit.
All in all, this issue was extremely average. If you haven't read it yet--I apologize for the lateness of this review--feel free to flip to the pages with Batman and Power Girl, and then to the last page so you get the setup for next issue. Honestly, you won't miss much.

Story: 3 - Good

I don’t think the dialog with Bea and Tora was wasted because she was healed. It’s like the classic “trapped in an elevator” scene, when one character admits all of their deep-seated fears/resentments/dreams/feelings to the other, only to have the elevator start working immediately afterwards. Those thoughts/feelings are still out there, and it gives the characters a chance to move forward.
I thought this issue wasn’t as good as the last, but the ending was unexpected and great. The art was weaker too. Story: 4/5, Art 3/5.
