This is pretty much the issue I’ve been waiting for this whole series. Back in the real JLI days, there was as much character interaction as there was actual superheroics, and while I don’t think JLGL has been particularly well-paced, it’s certainly been frantic. This issue was the first real chance we got to have the team interact with each other without being constantly on the run.

It was full of good stuff. Rocket Red has finally been acknowledged in-universe as the giant, adorable sweetheart that he is, Ice sounded a lot like her old (and by “old” I mean “in-character”) self, and while I don’t actually like that Booster spent pretty much the whole issue moping, it at least makes sense for him to do so.

The art was…meh. One problem with an issue full of talkin’ is that the art lives and dies by the artist’s ability to draw consistent faces and strong facial expressions, and Dagnino, unfortunately, isn’t really up to that task. The characters’ faces shapeshift from panel to panel, and Booster in particular looks way too craggy.

On the bright side, Ice’s costume managed to not go through another inexplicable change this issue. Her lips change color (seriously!), but I was half-expecting her to be wearing a bikini this issue, so I’m counting the lips thing as a positive step.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good
