June 3, 2014 5:19 pm Hey Paul, some of us work on those "scary quadrupeds". Rest easy, we do not use any rebar when building the robot.
May 15, 2014 9:36 am Do you like Rat Queens? I read issue #1, and was intrigued but not blown away. Worth getting the first trade?
April 21, 2014 10:12 pm Had a rustyautoparts moment when I thought Conor said Thor's greatest enemy was Eternius...I was like, who's he? You guys were right to say there wasn't a lot of great Cap in the past. And the recent Falcon collection reflects similarly. I do think Ultimates was a great Cap story/rendition.
April 14, 2014 2:56 pm How about Jack Kirby drawing Black Science? I've actually dropped the book because the story-telling side of the art hasn't done it for me, but it's not hard to imagine the King blowing this book out of the water. Here are two books I'm enjoying mentioned less often on the podcast: Manifest Destiny (really liked the wrap up to the opening arc this week), Peter Panzerfaust (reading in trade, btw they should title each trade with the name of the character being interviewed for that arc). You guys are a far cry from overcritical, don't worry. My problem with Flash Gordon is just that I don't see how a writer can ever really do anything with the property besides rehash the basic story, guy travels to amazing world with girl he loves and saves everybody after surviving countless deathtraps. Somehow, I feel like a book like Millar's Starlight is a better idea where you blatantly borrow the tropes but tell a different story (or at least have the freedom to do so, letting readers at least experience a little true suspense).
October 30, 2013 4:13 pm Really wanted to like Pretty Deadly, couldn't even finish it. Really wanted to like Velvet, but I thought it was boring and predictable. I feel like Brubaker is not as compelling as he was in past years with Incognito, Criminal, and early Cap...Velvet and Fatale have been misses for me... Other than a handful of titles (Jupiter's Legacy, New Avengers, Nowhere Men, Scarlet, Thor, Astro City (excepting last issue) and trades from Wonder Woman, Batwoman, Locke & Key, and Saga) , I'm in one of those periods where the books aren't speaking to me.
September 27, 2013 4:49 pm Luthor WAS fun. Thanks for the tip! Would never have picked this book up otherwise.
September 3, 2013 10:45 pm I'm just really happy the POTW podcast will continue, although I will dearly miss the forum and its personalities. I have always admired the professionalism you guys bring to the show week after week, limiting digressions, always seeming open to new comics and keeping the forum focused on current comics, not Who'd win, or the biz of comics. Thanks for how much you've enhanced my enjoyment of this art form we all love, because in the end, I think iFanboy has at its core the idea of bringing friends together with a shared passion for comics so that all of us can better appreciate this evolving and vibrant art form that bizarrely seems to leave the average Joe nonplussed. THANKs THANKS ThANKS!
August 20, 2013 10:21 pm Yes, and Esteve Polls' interiors are gorgeous too
August 16, 2013 10:41 am Boy, whatever problems Dark Ages brought to this series have been completely forgotten with this new start. This book is back, maybe better than ever. GREAT STORY. And Anderson's art has been really good as well. I have to admit I was skeptical that Busiek/Anderson could recapture their old mojo, but they sure have, this book is solid.
August 16, 2013 10:38 am There is a joy to this book that keeps me coming back. The Valkyrie character has needed the human grounding that Misty provides, good move by the writer. I love the book continuing to explore female characters of the Marvel U. I was so psyched last issue to see one of my favorite characters, Clea. Elsa Bloodstone (I had never heard of her) was fun this issue.
