This book was great. Don't read any farther if you don't want to be spoiled, because the spoiler is basically why this book went from a nice book to a great book.
Seriously, stop reading and go back to the book if you don't know what I'm talking about.
OK, you got it right? Well, I'm not sure I did but I think I did.
Joker starts off with the deck of cards...but what happens as the pages unfold is that EVERY CARD IN THE DECK is hinted at cleverly in different panels...here are some
Page 2...her dress hints the ten of clubs in panel 5. panel 6 is the 5 of clubs.
Page 3...panel 2 is 5 of spades (see the leaves)...the teeth in panel 5 may be the 2 of hearts? The smashed floor in the final panel is the 3 of diamonds?
Page 4...the shards of glass are clearly the 10 of diamonds...then 9 of diamonds, then 8 of diamonds, then the joker. Can you find the cards in the rest of the story?
And that's the only thing that confuses me...I was thinking the mystery villain was the Joker, as he would be the only card in the deck not drawn? Are there typically two jokers in a deck?
The art is gorgeous, the story clever. Like I said in an earlier comment, if you don't like this, then you just don't appreciate the fun that is a good Riddler story, and the sheer goofy joy that a fun comic can be! Sam Spade novels, diamond chandeliers, spade and club shaped leaves, Sargeant Peppers Lonely HEARTS club band, Queen of clubs dress, King of spades scarecrow hat...
OK, so what was the Doctor in a free clinic? Couldn't figure that one out...a little help?
Art: 5 - Excellent
Well that was very clever
