November 22, 2011 3:42 am I don't know if I'm alone on this, but it seems really egotistical of Johnson to decide that he's the foremost expert on covers. I admit that I do like his work, but rather than tearing apart the hard work that other artists put in on their covers, why doesn't he just observe what he thinks is wrong and apply that to his work, or express his ideas in a less public venue. This screams: "Ha ha ha, I am better than you", and that's just not professional.
September 14, 2011 6:54 pm That 2 on the Art rating should be a 5. My bad.
August 2, 2011 10:29 am This is getting ridiculous.  Kirby's grandkids don't deserve anything more than physical propety that hasn't already been sold by the estate.  It seems more disrespectful to Jack's memory to cast off the characters and worlds he spent decades of his life creating and exploring by not buying the books than to support his heirs.  Bottom line:  If they didn't directly work on it, they've earned nothing and should be thankful for what they get already. Jack grew up during the depression and was forced to learn the meaning of a dollar, the meaning of a days work, I don't know how these people support themselves, but in my mind, Jack would be a little less than proud to see them piggybacking off the sweat from his brow, the long hours he spent at the drawing board and the heart and soul he put into his creations.  If Jack was still around, I absolutely believe that he should get his fair share, just like Stan does but now that he's gone, all we've got left of him are a lifetime of great work and a monumentous number of pop culture icons that will not soon be forgotton.

Support Jack by enjoying the heroes and stories he cultivated, not by paying off his grandkids.
July 2, 2011 5:42 pm Great points Tom!  I completely agree, comic fans constantly ask for something new but when we get that something, usually a minority likes to make a lot of noise about how the creators are being raped when in fact it's noting more than an attempt to save them from falling into even deeper obscurity than they already are.  And as someone who works at one of the few comic shops that are left, I've been delighted by the number of people who come in asking about the relaunch and buying Flashpoint books in anticipation.  From my persective, the relaunch is showing signs of success 3 MONTHS before it's debut.  And to those protestors against the relaunch: Please stop furthering the stereotye, you're making us look bad.
June 7, 2011 7:51 pm I just read the first hardcover of Alan Moore's  Swamp Thing yesterday and immedietly ordered the next two volumes and am going insane waiting for them.  That being said, I wasn't excited when I saw the cover to the new series.  That is until I saw that it's being written by Scott Snyder with Yanick Paquette and Francesco Francavilla on the art duties.  If you told me that Swamp Thing would be the book I'd be most excited for in this whole relaunch I'd have said you were crazy, but that's the way it's looking! I can't wait.

October 25, 2010 3:04 pm I agree that the first arc was pretty weak.  I was really disappointed with Brubaker on this one, but I thought issue 5 was a much stronger story to go along with the subplot from 1-4, and the art was much better.  I think Dedato has really deteriorated since my introduction to him in the pages of the Thunderbolts in the initiative arc.  This series needs a stronger artist whose style fits with the type of stories that Brubaker is telling (David Aja or Michael Lark would be great!).  I find that this series has the same problem as The Rise and Fall of the Shiar Empire, the artist (In that case Billy Tan) doesn't fit the writer.  But above all, this book needs a stronger direction to follow. AKA THE AVENGERS BOOKS NEED TO DECIDE WHERE THEY'RE GOING AND NOT BE ALL OVER THE PLACE.

I really dug the first four issues of this arc, I have't read Spider-man since One More Day, and this was a good story to jump onto.  But the scenes with Mary Jane made my stomach turn inside out.

And I have a feeling either Menace or Doc Ock are gonna die.
