Mike Costa has shown that he can craft a strong narrative with interesting characters and surprising plot twists, but Blackhawks is no G.I. Joe Cobra, at least not yet. Though the idea of making a G.I. Joe-type team out of the Blackawks is a promising concept, there was just too much in this issue to digest. All of the characters are new, and none of them get sufficient attention to make the reader care about them. The are was just okay, telling the story clearly and concisely but I have seen much better efforts from other artists in the New 52 wheel house. Hopefully, the team will develop personalities and become characters to be cared about, but the premiere issue, though fun, fails to establish either of those things.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 3 - Good
