5. Jimmy Palmiotti and Amanda Conner

4. Greg Rucka and Jen Van Meter

3. Kathryn & Stuart Immonen

2. Mitch and Betty Breitweiser

1. Mike and Laura Allred

Comments

  1. Jill Thompson and Brian Azzarello

  2. Mike Choi & Sonia Oback

  3. Wait … and what about the greatest of all comic book couples – Walter & Louise Simonson!

  4. You’re not wrong.

  5. John Layman and Rob Guillory. Don’t ask.

  6. Tobin & Coover!  Fraction & DeConnick!

    Great list!

  7. But that would mean that John’s pregnant…

    THE HORROR!!!

  8. Weezie!

  9. I’d put Layman and Guillroy on the BFF list. haha

Palmiotti and Conner are a pretty unique super team. Love their work together.

  10. Palmiotti and Conner

  11. Must admit, Palmiotti and Conner were the only ones I knew of in advance. Nice to know there’s so much romance behind the scenes.

  12. I kind of took it for granted that Louise and Walt would top the list. But they’re not even on it! Now I don’t know what to think. My world-view is shattered.

  13. What about Walt and Louise Simonson???!!!

  14. Fun list! I’ll also throw out there Karl and Barbara Kesel along with John Ostrander and Kim Yale. It should be noted that Ostrander and Yale created the idea of turning Barbara Gordon into Oracle. Sadly, Yale passed away from breast cancer in 1997.

  15. People! I only get 5 slots!

  16. The Allreds are Awesome! Def deserve to be # 1!!!

  17. Honorable mention – Grant Morrison & Frank Quitely

  18. What, no love for Wendy and Richard Pini?!?!? Probably the greatest and most successful of the married comic couples.

  19. Rick Remender and the chain in his basement.

  20. Heart warming, and we all know that ALL of the couples are top creators and deserve the one spot, even when not mentioned. I think it’s like brothers in the music business, every band with brothers in it is always good.

  21. @summersleep: not every band with brothers in it is good.
Just that the bands we hear about with brothers in them are good. If they were bad, you’d never hear from them.

  22. @SummerSleep – I heartily disagree. 98 Degrees? Oasis? The Bee Gees? Yikes. I would say that bands of brothers (pun intended) are something to avoid!

  23. @JeffR – Agreed! The Ostrander/Yale team on Suicide Squad is one of my faves. When Kim Yale came on board to write with Ostrander, it just took that series to the next level.

And Walt and Louise Simonson — YES! (x infinity)

  24. I think what we’re saying is that Walter and Louise should have been number one.

And you have as many slots as you want to put down.

  25. @ericmci: No, he doesn’t – he’s got 5 slots. It’s right there in the title.

  26. Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick would definitely make my list.

  27. I would enjoy these lists more if you wrote your reasons why you included each entry in the Top 5. It doesn’t have to be long, just a few sentences for each would do.

Add me to the list of people who don’t understand Walt & Weezie’s snubbing.

  28. What will Justin Gray say about this???

  29. I have to second the glaring omission of the walt and weezie!

  30. Honorable mention to Terry and Rachel Dodson.

  31. Wait, Amanda Conner is with Jimmy Palmiotti? <head slumps. drops flower bouquet in nearest trash can>

  32. @flakbait I’m almost allergic to action typed out like that, but that was pretty good.  If we ever bump into each other at an iFanboy thing, I’ve got a high five with your name on it.

  33. Nice list Josh.

How about some great split couples?

    Frank Miller and Lynn Varley.

  34. Haha, I love that it’s just stated, no explanations of the choices whatsoever! 😛

  35. @JeffR Karl and Barbara Kesel split up a number of years ago.  But Hawk & Dove like a muthafukka.

Add one more voice for the Simonson’s .

  36. Great list. I look forward to the top5 every week.

Is the reason its 5 a throwback to your first video podcast? If it is thats cool

  37. @g0ofnewt: It’s not. But thank you all the same.

  38. Alan Moore and his beard (that is a glorious beard).

  39. aww

  40. Um the Luna Brothers? they do work as a team(couple?)->kind of a stretch, I know

  41. you could do a Top 5 brother acts I’m sure – Los Bros are #1 of course, Moon and Ba, Luna Bros…

  42. That’s 3. Trying to think of more.

  43. The Kuberts. The Buscemas.

  44. Really? No mentions of Bryan Lee O’Malley and Hope Larsen? Technically they haven’t worked together, but they both write and illustrate their own graphic novels.

  45. Bendis and Maleev. Lmao.

  46. i’m so unhip, who are any of these cats? i was also expecting Walter and Louise Simonson/Alan Moore and Melinda Gebbie–tsk tsk!! 🙁

  47. Ugh, couldn’t think of anything worse than working with my girlfriend/wife on anything, least of all my livelihood. Seperation of church and state, can you image if you were in the sack and suddenly ‘Oh jesus honey, you forgot to letter the second panel on the fifth page!’ As the Notorious BIG wisely said, ‘money and blood don’t mix like two d****’s!!

  48. I’m with those who think a recount in favor of the Simonsons is in order. Also, just because they haven’t been mentioned yet, I’ll throw out Jessica Abel and Matt Madden.

  49. 5 really isn’t enough
