as much as I like fraction, that x-men crossover thing is killing all my excitement for this series.

April 23, 2009 12:46 am @jumpingjupiter I seriously  disagree. I think this is pretty timeless. It makes no references to current batman continuity. It might as well be an elseworlds. It will be still good in five years because it's a story that adresses what's at the heart of batman. It will still be good in five years because, regardless of anything else, it's a great comic.
April 22, 2009 9:48 pm "Goodnight mechanicial dinosaur. Goodnight giant penny." had me laughing and getting misty-eyed. That was a pretty beautiful sequence.
April 22, 2009 8:33 pm I thought this was a really great issue. There's something about this book that is just magic. The way the Thor Blake releationship works, that bond that is so deep nothing really needs to be said about it in the book. He actually manages to make it believable and cool that these two people are sharing the same life. The Loki, Doom, Baulder interaction was so sharp and perfect. Djurdjevic did a heck of a job stepping in. It took me a while before I was ready to move past the first page. There are few books where the writing is this solid. Brubaker's Criminal, or Ennis's Battlefields, maybe. Those are books that make all the other books look bad.
April 22, 2009 7:58 pm I found the dialog a little confusing. It was difficult in the beginning to figure out who Hrolf was. The beggining was a little confusing in general. And later on the dialog just wasn't working for me. I'm not sure how to explain it. It's like how Morrison's stuff can feel sometimes, where the words seem like they are floating free of character, context and story. It made it very difficult to connect with this.
April 22, 2009 7:53 pm great issue. For a second after invincible's speech at the end, I was thinking that conquest might take it the wrong way and assume that invincible is well cut-out for this whole earth conquering thing, so no need for an epic, insane fight. Oh, well, I was wrong.

I thought the opening fight sequences in this was just incredible. This is some of the best action I've read in comics. Someone put Zeb Wells and Clay Mann on an ongoing book together, and make it something sort of like this.

@RocketRacoon I obviously like this a lot. I read the first trade of hulk and found it very dull. So, for what it's worth, I would reccomend droping Hulk and replacing it with this, even though this is not an ongoing.

April 21, 2009 4:03 pm @mulletpeep I agree. Marvel is way ahead of DC in aquiring new talent. Ivan Brandon is one of the few people that seems like they can be for DC what Matt Fraction is to marvel. A relative new comer who has the chops to take on importnat books. I thin DC can also be more like Marvel in promoting there new talent. Put someone really good on a fairly important book and say in the solicits that the writer is a "rising star" regardless of their actual popularity.
April 21, 2009 3:09 pm @wonderAli that's what i've been thinking. or at least hoping. I think it would be okay for steve to come back, but we could really use at least five more years Bucky-Cap doing his thing without steve around.
