It is painful to wait two months between issues of any comic, and it is especially painful for a comic as good as The Astounding Wolfman. Luckily Kirkman knows how to write comics that satisfy in single issues all the while building plots and subplots that will take years to come to resolve. And even more lucky is that starting in July, this book goes monthly. Hooray!
This issue demonstrates something else special about Robert Kirkman. His ability to make what at first seem boilerplate, nearly joke superheroes and villains into compelling characters, even in the midst of an action packed 22 page story. You saw him do it time and time again in invincible, and he keeps doing it in Wolf-Man.
Not to say that this book is exactly the same as Invincible, but it definitely feels like it's in the same universe. It has the same sense of humor and fun, the same occasional shocking violence. But the difference is out main character is an older family-man former Tycoon Werewolf, his mentor is a possibly evil, definetely opportunistic vampire and most of the fighting takes place at night, on earth.
Highlights of this issue include, Wolf-Man's Daughter hitting another girl in the face with a Tennis Racket, Wolf-Man's wife possibly being unfaithful, Mecha-Maid's "Daughter", Kinetic beating the hell out our hero, and the Retrun of Sergeant Superior.
Yes, it's awesome.
