August 15, 2013 1:30 pm Yeah... but I thought the creative team handled her character really well. Having read the issue, I can see why they needed to do it, but it seemed to simply fill in some cracks in the story that I wasn't even worried about. I don't want to say it was inconsequential (because I don't know where Hopeless is ultimately headed), but this issue was a bit more of a diversion than I was expecting it to be. But still, I'm excited to find out what's coming in Boss Battle (and beyond). Sounds like there's going to be a big shake-up that results in a new volume (or title?) in December.
August 15, 2013 1:00 pm Bathing in the tears of his enemies, detractors and critics? That's what I would do after delivering a run as awesome as this.
August 15, 2013 12:55 pm I don't think you're missing anything. I'm in the same boat regarding a history with Thor, but I believe that when Thor becomes the All-Father (as Old King Thor) he has the Thor Force, just like Odin has the Odin Force. Now, what's the Odin Force? I'm not 100% sure, but I think that's just the catch-all term for his King of The Gods abilities.
August 14, 2013 8:36 pm I'd like to rescind my previous comments about Frazer Irving's suitability for this book -- this issue looked great! I particularly loved the flashback panel of Magneto fighting the original X-Men and the double page spread at the protest.
August 13, 2013 7:23 am I'm pretty sure you can't blame this artist change on double shipping -- Thor launched last... October, right? So this has been shipping only slightly faster than monthly. The fact that a guy as good as Ribic (not known for regular monthly output) has kept up this long is great! Butch Guice is a legend and fit in nicely back on issue six. I'm definitely going to give Ron Garney a fair shot, but I'm not terribly enthused about a dark elf story, and the fact that I'm reading a Thor book in the first place is kind of an anomaly, so we'll see if I stay interested going forward.
August 12, 2013 10:07 pm As much as I'm enjoying everything going on in Murderworld, I'm excited for this "meanwhile..." issue. Molly Hayes has always been an entertaining character, so I'm hoping she gets to kick some butts this week!
August 12, 2013 6:16 pm Definitely more than the standard 20. The Hawkeye Annual from a few weeks ago had 28 story pages for $4.99, so I'm hoping we get at least that much. I wouldn't look down on a few additional pages with Hickman-styled infographics either!
August 12, 2013 6:14 pm No worries, I meant to include a smiley in my previous post. No personal attacks on your intelligence were intended, and I definitely noticed you say that you're a fan in the original post. But I get what you're saying -- I think BKV is pacing this book like a chess match -- pieces are in motion and we can perceive the edges of a larger strategy, but the game is still getting started. To compare, Y: The Last Man had a lot of shorter arcs and subplots woven into the larger narrative, giving us small bits of resolution as we worked toward the big ending. It's an often over- and mis-used term, but I think Saga is going for something a bit more novelistic in it's pacing.
August 12, 2013 6:05 pm I'm also not crazy for Frazer Irving's work on the book, but I'd argue against labelling it a mainstream superhero book. Sure, it's called Uncanny X-Men, so 50 years of history weighs heavy, but we're really not getting anything like a traditional superhero story (or even a traditional X-Men story) in this title. But in a larger sense, I'm really happy to see the definition of Super-Hero-Art-Style expand to include guys like Irving and Bachalo (even though I've liked Bachalo's work since the early 90s).
August 12, 2013 4:20 pm Nothing has happened?! I'm sorry, but you're objectively wrong on that one, sir. We may not understand all the implications of everything that has happened so far, but the plot wheels have definitely been turning the whole time!
