Before I read this book I had very minimal knowledge of the series that came before it. The little that I did know were videos of Alan Moore discussing his Swamp Thing series. That being said, I trusted Scott Snyder enough to be able to make this book accessible. He did! Originally I gave this book a 4/5, but upon review I really can say this is a 5 star book. This change was due to really understanding what the book was trying to accomplish. We are first introduced to Alan Holland who used to walk the earth as Swamp Thing six weeks prior. In this newly established universe he is working a construction job trying to live a somewhat normal life and deal with the memories he carries of the Swamp Thing. The book is extremely accomplished in establishing an emotional connection with this character who we have not seen in so long. Snyder was able to suck me into the character of Holland who just needs time to deal with this alone. All the checking up from Superman doesn't matter, this is a battle that must to be won from within. With a great set-up, a frightening antagonist and a cliffhanger that want's to keep me reading, Swamp Thing is a great addition to the new DCU.
