Name: Justin Barnard

Bio: I'm your typical mid 20s comic book fan. As a kid I dabbled lightly in comics with x-men mostly but my real awakening to comics happend when my mother who was in the navy returned from an overseas trip with 3 huge bags filled with comics ranging from original UK Judge Dread to Avengers to Green Lantern to XO Man of War to God knows what I am forgetting. I kept pretty steady on comics moving through events like Zero Hour in DC to Onslaught in Marvel, Post onslaught during the "heroes reborn stories" I lost interest in the repetiveness I saw so I dropped out for a while, read some random trades here and there then around 2000 I was introduced to Top Cow and these comics brought back a passion like I never knew before (as well as a budget to sustain it) This coupled with the looming trade paperback revolution has kept me a happy comic fan steadily for coming close to a decade now.

November 10, 2013 2:52 pm growing up one of my favorite movies was the Dolph Lundgren Masters of the Universe. I still love this movie to this day but all the flaws of it are painfully obvious to me now. I feel that this movie made good on an promise that I didn't realize that movie made with me for an epic movie that mixes Fantasy and Scifi. I loved this movie.

May 3, 2013 2:47 pm I feel a lot of people aren't giving this movie enough credit for what it has to be. The greatest strength of the marvel studios movies is the shared universe. But this is also a great weakness in that we have to maintain believablity of the scale of the problems and the fact that time passes in the real world and we don't get 50+ years of revisits. I think any changes to characters were made with the idea that this is a movie universe where gods, giant alien armadas and other fantastical things occur and if we are to believe that we need team to confront these issues we have to settle for less on the individual level. This is part of the reason I don't care for the justice league because unless its darkseid or a giant alien armada coming to level the plant I don't see why any one hero can't take care of the villain like they did X years ago.
January 18, 2013 9:32 pm big congratulations to Ron and Paul, I sure you guys will continue to amaze.
November 27, 2012 4:16 pm Marvel had one shot at getting me sold on their new NOW initiative and that was Uncanny Avengers, while not a terrible comic, it didn't feel like world building to me. And I think that for me get behind this initiative they needed to build a better world for stories for me to come along. As such I'm treating the NOW line much like I did DC's relaunch, I'm just flat out ignoring it, with the each publishers back catalog of old issues growing rapidly I'm just reading old favorites and arcs I never really checked out before. I'm still reading a lot of indie titles, and I think this is a good thing, I'm coming to realize that as I get older I don't want straight up serialized stories, I want longer form narratives and complete thoughts. And like books I can just pick up what sounds interesting after the fact and I don't need to be enthralled in the messy continuities that are always changing. And much like mike says I can't feature spending $4 on a comic consistently though I hold true to that on both digital and floppies. Luckily I will always have sites like this one that can tell me when something interesting is happening.
July 15, 2012 1:08 am *shrugs* I'll give it a shot, I didn't think I'd like the suit case armor in iron man 2 but when I saw it in action I ran with it ok, I'm sure when its in motion I won't pay one bit of attention to what the colors are.
July 12, 2012 10:35 pm I admire the guts it took to do before watchmen, but I fear DC might be treading down the wrong path ala the late 90s string of disney direct to video sequels...
May 22, 2012 12:19 am wonder how they will make Mar-vell dead again this time.
May 12, 2012 1:00 am I'm kind of disappointed that as it is a CN show It won't have a dead cat... oh well looking forward to the episode
May 2, 2012 10:51 am I am so rooting for this movie to be the big one for the summer, as much as I like christopher nolan's batman I really want a solid win for a superhero movie that doesn't need to be dark and gritty.
