June 25, 2012 12:25 pm Agreed on all fronts. The amount of pretentious holier-than-thou soapboxing that takes place on twitter borders on the ludicrous. The pointless arguing that goes on about Big Two creator rights leads me to believe that these indie guys either A) are mind-numbingly stupid/naive, or B) love the sound of their own voices. Maybe both.
June 17, 2012 9:55 pm To whoever has Book of the Month next, I would highly suggest checking out Siegfried released by Archaia. Jaw-dropping art and an epic story based on Norse myth. Comic Book History of Comics is a great pick, but yeah-- definitely check out Siegfried.
June 7, 2012 1:50 pm Dragon Ball isn't really for kids though... it has a lot of cheeky sex jokes and nudity in general. I don't think parents would appreciate their children using the "pat-pat test".
May 30, 2012 7:50 pm Completely agreed on all counts. The book is a great combination of old and new.
May 7, 2012 4:02 pm Batman and Batman & Robin in the same week? Gimme. BQ: I'm annoyed at people that want the new Spider-Man and X-Men movies to fail so that "Marvel Studios get the rights". What happened to caring about the actual quality of the movies? First Class was fantastic and Amazing looks great too. Isn't that what's most important?
April 30, 2012 12:17 pm I have to disagree with you. While it's true that the vast majority of cartoons are aimed at kids, there are quite a few that are well-written enough to entertain adults as well. Just look at shows like Avatar: The Last Airbender or Batman: The Animated Series. These shows were most certainly aimed at kids, but the writing refused to talk down to its audience and were critically acclaimed as a result. There is most certainly room for excellence in the realm of children's television. Handwaving subpar material because kids won't know the difference is enabling mediocrity. You know how sometimes you'll go back to a cartoon that you loved as a kid and think to yourself, "Wow, this does not hold up at all. What did I see in this?" Kids now are going to be doing that with Ultimate Spider-Man in 10 or 15 years.
April 23, 2012 3:31 pm BQ: I tracked down a copy of "It's Superman!" by Tom De Haven after reading that great Superman article last week.
April 15, 2012 7:41 pm Never heard of Courtney Crumrin? It's been an Oni Press staple for ten years now! Conor, I insist you pick up the hardcover reprint of the first miniseries. Educate yourself!
April 4, 2012 5:42 pm I'm pleased as punch that Atomic Robo, Life With Archie and Usagi Yojimbo were all nominated. The fact that these books are so often ignored is absolutely criminal.
March 30, 2012 2:01 pm Josh sounds vaguely pissed off in every podcast he's in and article he writes. The guy might need a vacation.
