Comments

  1. Really enjoying I,Vampire and JLDark right now.

BQ: The Invention of World Religions by Tomoko Masuzawa

  2. BQ: Sleepwalk With Me by Mike Birbiglia

  3. Just finished Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. On Astro Van by some dude now.

  4. Little old week for me FF #17, Ultimate Comics:The Ultimate #9 (Hickman double whammy) & maybe I’ll get X-Men Legacy not sure.

Do want Gotham Central as well, don’t know?

    • Gotham Central? The answer is yes. Just picked up the first trade last week and I’m kicking myself for waiting so long.

  5. Really excited to see the Immonens working together in AVX

BQ: Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson.

  6. I finished Game of Thrones in preparation for the new season on HBO a few weeks ago but I haven’t jumped into something new just yet.

I bought a handful of used books just yesterday — mostly genre classics that I’ve never read before like The Shining, Dark Tower, Ender’s Game, and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

I’m excited to finally read all of them, but I think I’m in a sci-fi mood, so Ender’s Game will probably be first.

Also, if this contents of the book sale were any indication, I’m the only person on the planet who has never bought nor read John Grisham novel. You could’ve built a house with all the used copies of his work available.

  7. A week with no Image pulls for me is a sad week indeed.

BQ: About to finish China Miéville’s Kraken. Can’t wait to pick up his Dial H next month.

  8. Activity, Daredevil, Ninja Turtles. Good week.

BQ: The Sisters Brothers-Patrick DeWitt, a great western.

  9. Such a light wednesday this week, only flash for me.

  10. Comics: Aquaman, Flash, Superman, GL: New Guardians, Daredevil and the Activity.

BQ: Just read The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach. Kind of a slog towards the end but okay. Also finished Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. Spoiler warning: he was a really smart guy but a total dick. Also, Absolute Monarchs, about the history of popes. Totally awesome history.

  11. Really looking forward to Daredevil and All-Star Western. I’m also really excited about Astonishing X-Men for the first time in a while.

BQ: Just started a biography of Mark Twain and just finished Theodore Roosevelt’s “Rough Riders.” I’ve been on a reading binge since I finished War and Peace (which took a LONG time to finish, so I have some catching up to do).

  12. ALL-STAR WESTERN #8
    AMERICAN VAMPIRE #26
    AVX: VS #1 (OF 6)
    DAREDEVIL #11
    FF #17
    SECRET AVENGERS #26
    THE MIGHTY THOR #13
    UNCANNY X-MEN #11

I just found out about Super-Crooks. It looks good but I missed the first issue… when I tried to go grab #1 digitally, I couldn’t find it. Oh well.

BQ: I’m in-between books and figuring out what’s next. Maybe Daemon by Daniel Suarez, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline or Seized by Max Hardberger.

  13. BQ:Just finished “Catching Fire” and now i’m going to start “Mocking Jay” (Hunger Games)…pretty engrossing and quick reads.

  14. This is a pretty solid week. Daredevil, aquaman, flash, secret avengers, and american vampire.

BQ: Just picked up Abraham Lincoln: Vampire hunter, so hopefully I can start that this week, if my homework load allows it.

  15. Ack, a lot of books this week. Based on the preview for AvX Vs. #1, I think I’ll skip, but I might try the Avenger titles tie-ins.

BQ: Just finished Hunger Games Trilogy, now reading McCloud’s “Reinventing Comics” and “Classics and Comics” from Oxford Press.

  16. I’m looking forward to FF this week, I always enjoy a good Human Torch/Spider-man story.

BQ: Halfway through “A Storm of Swords”.

  17. BQ: The newspaper, do people remember what that is!

  18. BQ: Horns by Joe Hill

  19. BQ : I’ve been loving the Game of Thrones show on HBO, so I decided to try the first book in the series.

  20. Avatar photo filippod (@filippodee) says:

This week I have 3 BONGO books! Weird.

Looking forward to: Moon Knight final issue. I hope it’s a satisfying conclusion.

BQ: “Lauren Ipsum”, a fairy tale about.. computer science! http://www.laurenipsum.org/

  21. BQ: I tracked down a copy of “It’s Superman!” by Tom De Haven after reading that great Superman article last week.

  22. Getting

    BPRD: The Pickens County Horror
    The Goon

    The Flash
    I, Vampire
    Justice Jeague Dark

    FF

BQ: Supergods & A Dance With Dragons. needing to go catch up on China Mieville’s last two books as well.

  23. Four books this week? Score!

BQ: Right now I’m finishing up The Hunger Games. Then I have to get back to American Gods and finish that so I can then read some book called Astro Van by some guy.

  24. Ouch, my wallet hurts:

    ALL-STAR WESTERN #8
    AMERICAN VAMPIRE #26
    AQUAMAN #8

    SUPERCROOKS #2 (OF 4)
    THE FLASH #8
THE NEW DEADWARDIANS #2 (OF 8)
THE SIXTH GUN, VOL 03 TP
    THE TWELVE #12 (OF 12)

  26. American Vampire
    BPRD: Pickens County…
    Daredevil
    Flash
    I,Vampire
    JLD
    Spaceman

BQ: The First Law Trilogy, book 3: The Last Argument of Kings by Joe Abercrombie. this is a great series for fantasy fans who like Game of Thrones. There’s lots of political intrigue mixed with wild action, and the characters are all gray morally speaking(sorry though, no incest). Next up I finally get to start the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks. I’ve been on a big fantasy kick lately, after finishing the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, which I highly recommend.

  27. Not a heavy week, but a hearty one!

    ALL-STAR WESTERN #8
    AMERICAN VAMPIRE #26
    CAPTAIN AMERICA #10
    DAREDEVIL #11
    JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #8
    SECRET AVENGERS #26

Justice League Dark hasn’t been thrilling me recently, so I might be dropping it and increasing my trade buying.

BQ: Just finished Klosterman’s Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs which was a blast to read. I’m in the middle of a horror anthology the missus got for her birthday called Blood Lite. Like most anthologies, there have been some fun stories, some okay ones, and some … well, somebody was friends with the editor style tales.

  28. Hmmm, let’s see:

    Aquaman #8
Batman: The Dark Knight #8 (This series really took a nosedive, but Hurwitz is taking over and I’m a completist…)
    Uncharted #6
    Daredevil #11
    FF #17
    The Twelve #12
Ultimate Comics The Ultimate Ultimates Ultimately #9

And I’ve just finished ‘Robopocalypse’ by Daniel H. Wilson and will be moving on to ‘Unholy Night’ by Seth Grahame-Smith.

  29. A nice, light week buying-wise. But still a good one. ALL STAR WESTERN, yay! And DAREDEVIL! AQUAMAN is an okay read for me, and yeah, God forbid we go one week without one or more AVENGERS books. Only Marvel Comics could get me to dislike a great writer like Brian Michael Bendis.

  30. CAPTAIN AMERICA #10
    CAPTAIN AMERICA & HAWKEYE #629
    DAREDEVIL #11
    FF #17
    REBEL BLOOD #2 (OF 4)
    TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #9
    THE ACTIVITY #5
    THE GOON #39
    THE NEW AVENGERS #25
    ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #1 (MARVEL UNIVERSE)

BQ: Hell, I don’t even have time to read my comics, much less anything else.

  31. Captain America and Hawkeye has dinosaurs!
BQ: I just got Victory of Eagles, the 5th book in the Temeraire series. The series is takes places during the Napoleonic wars and has talking dragons that act like flying battle ships!

  32. AQUAMAN #8
    AVX: VS #1 (OF 6)
    BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #8
    GREEN LANTERN: NEW GUARDIANS #8
    I, VAMPIRE #8
    JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #8
    SUPERMAN #8
    TEEN TITANS #8
    TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES #9
    THE FLASH #8
    UNCHARTED #6 (OF 6)

    BQ: A Game of Thrones

  33. Light week for me, as always these days with the fourth week of the month. Only thing I’m pulling is Previews, which can probably wait until next week anyway…

  34. Very light week.

    All-Star Western
    Aquaman
    FF

    BQ: Non….comic books?

  35. Game of Thrones. It is incredible!

  36. Flash, Captain America, the Twelve, Daredevil and Secret Avengers. Last week, I loved every book I read, so hopefully this week continues that (Captain America needs to deliver something big for me, and I’m hoping that the Twelve at least has a decent ending, I’m just glad it’s all done).

BQ: Princess of Mars. But I’ve been distracted from it since I’m taking a Brit Lit class that’s got me reading some post-1800s poetry and literature.

  37. AVX: VS #1, Secret Avengers #26, Teen Titans #8, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #9, The Flash #8, The Mighty Thor #13, The New Avengers #25, Uncanny X-Men #11, Uncharted #6. I gotta buy Catwoman #8, The Incredible Hulk #7, and The Walking Dead #96 from last week. Had to leave em behind cause I had too many books.
BQ: I found the A Series of Unfortunate Events series in my closet. I may retread those cause I haven’t read them since I was in 4th grade.

  38. american vampire, aquaman, flash, star wars dark times, star wars blood ties: boba fett is dead, daredevil, bprd.

bq: the god delusion, stranger in a strange land, jitterbug perfume and american psycho.
i have a habit of reading 3-4 book in a constant rotation at one time along with my comics.

    • Stranger in a Strange Land is awesome and you should read The God Delusion in Droppy’s voice

    • @edward – that’s funny!

@sitara119 – I’ve read The God Delusion, Stranger in a Strange Land. and saw the film, American Psycho. I am unfamiliar with Jitterbug Perfume.

  39. Roll Sound

    Television Sports Production

    Save the Cat Strikes Back

God and Generals: The Paintings of Mort Kunstler

DRIVE and LIFT OFF! by Scott Robertson

  40. Avatar photo captamerica101 (@Autobot_Hunter) says:

BQ: i’m reading i, robot which is fantastic.

  41. This week has a whole lot of maybes:

    All-Star Western (maybe)
AvX:VS (maybe just flip through it at the store)
Aquaman (last issue before it gets dropped)
    Flash
    Secret Avengers
    Daredevil
    Justice League Dark (maybe)

Because of the new books that DC is putting out next month, I got to start dropping some books to make room. Had to drop American Vampire, Aquaman and probably All-Star Western. Oh well, hopefully the new DC books are good.
BQ: I was planning on picking up Supergods.

  42. ALL-STAR WESTERN #8
    SPACEMAN #6 (OF 9)
    THE FLASH #8
    THE NEW DEADWARDIANS #2
    DAREDEVIL #11

BQ: Laughter in the Dark, Vladimir Nabokov (Fiction), The Human Story, James C. Davis (Non-Fiction)

    • Vladimir Nabokov wrote Lolita too, right? Despite the skin crawling subject matter that is one of the best novels ever written

    • @edward – i know what you mean about Lolita. It’s not a book I would try and have a conversation with someone who hasn’t read it, but I would proudly state, it was definitely one of the best written novels I’ve ever read.

  43. ANGEL & FAITH
    REBEL BLOOD
    TMNT

Light week! I like light weeks. It gives me time to catch up on reading other things. Which brings me to…

BQ: “The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe” biography by J. Randy Taraborrelli.

  44. BQ: My boss recently gave me a copy of season one of Game of Thrones. I started watching thinking “i’m going to hate this, the lord of the rings was terrible and fantasy is for virgins”

That was last week, I’ve watched season one twice and brought the first two books. I’m half way through the first now

    • Also, what a mediocre week of books, There’s Daredevil, I suppose, but thats the final issue of a cross-over. Aquaman and Flash are basically just doing their thing. Then there’s half a dozen AXV tie-ins.

  45. BLOODSTRIKE #27
    AQUAMAN #8
    I, VAMPIRE #8
    JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #8
    THE FLASH #8
    SPACEMAN #6 (OF 9)

BQ-Reading NAKED LUNCH by the great William S. Burroughs-amazing

  46. SUPERMAN and ALL-STAR WESTERN

BQ: I’m reading Anne Rice’s Wolf Gift at the moment. I’ve just started it and it seems kinda slow. I hope it gets better. I usually love her books.

  47. I’m really surprised there hasn’t been more buzz about the AvX Vs. book (although it does seem to be getting a good number of pulls). Moronic title aside, this seems like a no-brainer pick up to me if you are remotely interested in either artist on the book. I feel like the various artists are just going to be given complete free reign to go as bold as they want, which should look awesome, especially with two guys the caliber of Immonen & Kubert on this issue.

  48. ALL-STAR WESTERN
    AQUAMAN
    THE FLASH
    THE NEW DEADWARDIANS
    DAREDEVIL
    CHEW, VOL. 5 TPB
    SIXTH GUN, VOL. 3 TPB

BQ: I’m reading The Seventh by Richard Stark.

  49. I, VAMPIRE
    JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK
    AQUAMAN
    ALL STAR WESTERN
    SUPERMAN BEYOND

    THE NEW DEADWARDIANS
    AMERICAN VAMPIRE

BQ: I’m always reading one classic and one guilty pleasure. Currently enjoying A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens and Have Tech Will Travel, a Star Trek SCE compilation with various authors.

  50. I haven’t been to get my comics in a while. Have thos week’s books, plus the last TWO weeks. Ugh. My wallet hurts.

    BQ: Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson.

  51. American Vampire, Daredevil, Exile on the Planet of the Apes, and The Twelve.

BQ: The Mortification of Sin by John Owen and The Bruised Reed by Richard Sibbes.

  52. Just 4 this week, plus 2 I somehow missed from previous weeks.
    New ones are:
    AvX Vs
    Teen Titans
    Flash
    New Deadwardians
    Old ones are:
    Amazing Spider-Man #683
    Saga #2

BQ is World War Z by Max Brooks

  53. This is a light week. Only 3 books. I’m looking forward to seeing this JL Dark/ I Vampire crossover turns out.
Bonus question: “The Death of Bunny Monroe” by Nick Cave. I somehow missed this when it first came out and being a huge Nick Cave fan I had to pick it up immediately.

  54. BQ: Land of the Dead by Thomas Harlan, solid take on the alternate evolution of earth into the far future and the dangers that exist on the outskirts of space.

  55. Looking forward to Daredevil and American Vampire.

BQ: Just finished Still Midnight by Denise Mina last week (Thanks for the recommendation, Paul. I really enjoyed it.). Now I’m on The Best American Noir of the Century. It’s a compilation of 39 stories edited by James Ellroy and Otto Penzler. It’s a must read for any fan of the genre. Educational, thrilling, and dark. Very dark.

  56. BQ: Starting to read the autobiography of one of my favorite musicians…See A Little Light by Bob Mould.

  57. aquaman daredevil the flash new avengers uncanny xmen xmen legacy

bq: trying to read financial peace by dave ramsey, need just a few more bucks for comics

  58. BQ: A Clash of Kings by George RR Martin

I have been bitten by A Song of Ice and Fire bug!

  59. My comics are a matter of public record.

BQ: I just finished “I Want My MTV,” an oral history of the golden age of said network. (The book ends at 1992, roughly the same time I stopped watching MTV.) It wasn’t quiiiite what I wanted it to be– I’d have loved to hear more from the original VJs– but it reminded me of countless things I’d put behind me and told many a behind-the-scenes tale of the cocaine-fueled shoots of some of your favorite videos. To say nothing of the chapter on “Remote Control.” I moderately recommend it.

  60. As usual, I have a big, but strong week of stuff I’m looking forward too. I hope that my shop gets American Vampire after Diamond shipped the book two weeks late last time. Also, looking forward to Snarked, Goon, All-Star Western, Spaceman, and TMNT. I’m on the fence about Secret Avengers because its an AvX tie-in, and I’m not really reading any of that stuff. I like the title, so I’ll probably pick it up after the event stuff.

BQ: Well, technically, I’m reading Neal Stephenson’s Cryptonomicon, which on my Kindle is about 23,000 “pages.” I’m about 8,000 pages into that, but have sort of lost track of what’s going on since I don’t read it regularly because life has a way of disturbing time for novels. I started a Shadow double novel the other weeek, but can’t remember what’s going on in that either. Basically, my answer is: what’s reading?

  61. I think I most look forward to Moon Knight’s finale and not because it was a great book. Daredevil and Spaceman draw my interest most this week.

    All Star Western
    Daredevil
    Flash
    Moon Knight
    New Avengers
    Secret Avengers
    Spaceman
    Supercrooks
    Superman

BQ: I don’t remember the last time I was as excited for a novel as I am Ariel S. Winter’s “The Twenty-Year Death,” which drops in August. I love the Hard Case Crime collection. I haven’t picked up “Raylan” by Elmore Leonard yet. I’m currently reading “Destry Rides Again” in a Penguin Pocket Book release from about 50 years ago.

  62. American Vampire, if it comes out
    Aquaman
    Flash
    I Vampire
    JLA Dark
    The New Deadwardians

    BQ: Southern Vampire Mysteries(true blood).

  63. Another week, another stack. But since that stack includes things like American Vampire, Aquaman and the JL Dark/I, Vampire crossover, I’m good.

As fior the BQ: I haven’t had that much time, as of late. I think the last non-comic thing I read was Stephen King’s “Under the Dome.” Not his best (IMO), but I admire his ability to immediately capture the voice of his characters and make them familiar. He’s also not afraid to kill characters at any moment so tehre is always a genuine sense of menace.

  64. Can’t wait for Flash, Moon Knight or American Vampire. After the conclusion of the last arc, it’d be great to see what happens next.

BQ – ‘Peter Pan’. Never read it as a kid, but thought i’d pick it up after starting Peter Panzerfaust and recently watching ‘Hook’. Good form!

  65. Musicophilia by Oliver Sacks.
