There isn’t a book in the New 52 that has defined itself through its art more than Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato’s Flash. So when I cracked open the latest issue and found a guest artist’s work inside, my first thought was “Blasphemy”.

Luckily, Marcus To is up the task of pinchhitting for Francis Manapul, not an easy feat by any stretch. To’s art has that same essential kinetic energy that makes Manapul’s art such a visual feast. The two-page spread of Flash leading the torrent of water away from the village was the highlight of a fantastic issue.

Plotwise, it’s what you’ve come to expect from Manapul and Buccelato. I will say that I prefer these done-in-one stories to the sprawling multi-issue arc that lead off the series. If there’s one book on the stands that should always be quick-paced and dynamic, it’s the Flash.

Flash continues to be a great book with jaw-dropping art, and this issue is no exception. Kudos to Marcus To for the great work and I look forward to more adventures with the Scarlet Speedster.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
