This week saw the unveiling of mine and I’m sure a lot of other peoples most anticipated Bat book, Batman #1. I was anxious to see if Scott Snyder could keep his great run on Detective into his reboot. He does.

I have to admit I was very disappointed that Dick Grayson would no longer be under the cowl of the caped crusader. I like new things, sue me, but I was pleasantly surprised with Bruce Wayne back in the driver’s seat. It’s clear that Snyder has a direction for Bruce just as much as he did Dick.

The introduction of everything in Batman’s world was done in a way that was unlike anything I’ve seen in the new #1’s. One of my small highlights was the invention of some new technology in the Batcave that unraveled a great plot twist in the middle of the book.

I was scared that the gruesomeness that popped up in Detective would be lost in Batman but it popped up right when it needed too. It’s contrast with the pomp and circumstance of the Gotham affluent makes it stand out even more.

Scott Snyder is Gotham. Read this book.
