Ah Batman. My favorite hero.

I started reading comics with the “Batman and Son” trade by Morrison and I’ve grinded all the issues since the last of the old volume and now embracing this new #1 written by Scott Snyder and drawn by Gred Capullo.

The story is classic Snyder good. Everything has its reason to be, he places the details brilliantly and the characters voices are each unique and credible in such a way that it comes to life by itself. The concepts are what I expect coming from a Batman book and I especially liked the contact lens/voice activated bat-computer. Clever, cool and really useful!

The art of Capullo is a perfect fit for this and he was born to draw Batman, his cartoony style kept me smiling panel after panel as I recalled Batman: TAS and how much I enjoyed it. Everything is fluid, gritty and detailed. The only thing that I didn’t like, was how young he made Bruce seem. I’m 25 and he looked my age… which was just weird after reading all those previous issues of him looking like he’s in his late 30’s early 40’s.

Though I have a little drawback… As much as I loved Capullo’s pencils, I disliked the coloring of it. Earth tones are not what I expect on a Batman book and for some unknown reasons, it didn’t click for me. I guess I’ll get used to it, but I dunno, it made everything look “flat” and muddy… An example of this being the Joker with almost green/brown hair and almost brownish purple overcoat.

Aside from that, this issue was perfect and I can’t wait for #2 to come out! Snyder is a comic book God and a worthy successor of Morrison!
