Before this issue (outside of 52) I have never read an Animal Man comic. Not even the Grant Morrison run, (blasphemy, I know), but after this issue I am completely blown away.
I had not originally planned to pick this up, but after recommendations by the ifanboy crew and Scott Snyder I gave it a shot. So glad that I did.
I have always enjoyed the idea of a family man superhero, and that is exactly what Buddy Baker is portrayed as here. A man who loves his wife and kids and suffers from regular family issues such as a daughter wanting a puppy, but on top of all that he still has to fight crime. I guess a comic CAN work nowadays where the hero is married.
With amazing art, great characterization, and an ending that will leave you floored this is something that is worth checking out.
