  1. Obviously, you and I disagree markedly on this book, but your review is hilarious.

  2. I gotta say, I liked your review. I haven’t read it and I like Bendis and Maleev, so I may have a different grade for the book, but you did write an entertaining review.

Art is subjective, so I understand not likeing Maleev. When he took over the art duties on Daredevil with issue 26 (wow! almost 100 issues ago!). I did not like what I saw and came very close to dropping the title. Thankfully, I stuck around and read one of the greatest superhero stories in the last 15 years. Maleev is now one of my favorite artists.

Also, how many super ripped hobos with gold arm bands have you seen? All the hobos in my city are malnurished and desperate need of food and money.

  3. Well look at the cover…it doesnt look too bad.

Then you open the issue and everyone is off model. I know artists have different interpretation of the characters; but looking at Namor, Osborn, Hood, and Loki…it’s ridiculous. Thank god you cant make Doom look bad.

Trust me when I say this, this might be the worst looking and worst art in a book this year.

  4. Not really sure why you say Bendis puts them together "for no reason at all"  Osborn flat out says that its because they all want something and haven’t been able to get it.  Plus he even explains it further to Emma why it would be beneficial to be in this group.  And the reason Osborn is written crazy is…because he is crazy.  Thats Bendis’ point, that this bitch be crazy.  Granted I didn’t read Ellis’ take on Norman, so if it is different from that take then I don’t know why Bendis deviated so much from it.

Now on to what I agree with! 🙂  Emma’s dream was stupid.  Just put in for no reason I think.  Maybe to show us how Emma justifys joining Norman’s group?  Wanting to do whatever she can to make it so they don’t lose anyone else ever again?  Either way, it don’t work.  Loki just doesn’t seem into it, and Bendis didn’t even do a half assed attempt to explain why she SHOULD be there.  Probably just to see how it plays out.

Art…was nasty.  Maleev is a great storyteller, I knew exactly what was going and and who was talking, but his art was just ugly as fuck.  No excuse for this, it felt rushed and phoned in in way too many parts.

And you know what I love and hate at the same time?  turning the page on a Bendis book and seeing ten thousand fucking word balloons plastered all over the place.  Crazy bald guy.

Fun review friend, even if I don’t agree with your assesement of Bendis’ writing completely.

  5. @drake: You say that he didnt do this team up for no reason at all. Yet your confused on why Loki is in the group.

Again I bet you could replace Loki with like….Red Skull. Or replace Namor with Magneto and it would have very little difference with this issue. Again I like it Bendis brought up the Namor/Doom team-up from a couple of years ago. But still…it just didnt feel like this was needed what so ever.

  6. no no friend, I am confused as to why Loki is sticking around, seemingly joining the group and accepting Norman’s proposal, seemingly believeing that Norman could help her get Asgard.  Not confused as to why Bendis put her in the group.  Those are two very different thing.

I agree that you could replace Loki and it wouldn’t make a difference in this ISSUE, but it will most obviously make a difference to the overall story of this group of individuals.  I found it hilarious that Namor and Doom seem like BFFs.  I have the mini where Namor lost his kingdom, so I know how their relationship is now, but its still funny to see them get along so well.

  7. i disagree on your thoughts about the story. i liked it and reasons for them being there made prefect sense.

i completely agree with the art. it was awful. i am not really an art guy either. if it is okay then it doesn’t bother me. is namor balding?

  8. At my LCS I wanted to take a chance on this one, then I thumbed through it to gauge the artwork and I quickly put it back on the shelf. Sorry artwork is a major reason I buy any title and call me an idiot but for $4 bucks I want a halfway decent artwork

  9. Gotta agree with Drake and comhcinc on this one — the story really does cover exactly why Osborn selected each of them. It’s not "we’re all villains" (Bendis knows that villains never see themselves as villains). All the characters here are leaders who have shown themselves to be at odds with the establishment at given times. They could each conceivably command armies. And they all want something. Osborn’s bringing them together. I thought it all made perfect sense.

  10. Isn’t Loki the god of mischief? Maybe she’s just there to fuck shit up

  11. Dude, you were right. Namor does not look like Namor.  I thought the art was…inconsistent. Sometimes it was alright, sometimes it was terrible. I suppose Maleev refused to draw Osborn’s hair the (silly) way it’s been drawn since the early 1960s.

I can see, however, that is you were disappointed with Secret Invasion how this could potentially push you over the edge.

  12. Let’s put it this way, if Bendis was trying to introduce this evil group by parrelling it to the good illuminati:

The New Avengers: Illuminati made more sense then this Evil Illuminati. I can say without any worries, that this Illuminati team will disappate and all will be forgotten in about 2-3 years.

  13. everyone has the right to an opinion. I think your review sucks. That’s my opinion. About the book, it sucked too.
