Parker

Name: Parker Holland

Bio: I live in Texas and once worked in the office of a large comic book store in the area. Through this I learned some of the uglier sides of the comic distribution industry and have come out of the experience still loving comics but in a much different way and for many more reasons.I am currently on a "DnA" kick and am trying to collect all of their work that I can in issues since DC seems to have a "No Trades Allowed" policy when it comes to the majority of their work.

@vadamowens

Oh, sorry I misunderstood. I believe Conor just meant it began in that issue, not that Ion going into the sun was the actual event.

July 7, 2009 12:16 pm I am looking forward to this, but it seems like it's getting overly hyped. That probably has to do with me listening to the Around Comics guys though. I'm not sure what they are expecting from this but they just about cream their pants every time it is brought up. I'm sure this will be a good series, but not the second coming of comics like they seem to believe.
July 7, 2009 12:13 pm I;m a little iffy on this one since the last non-DnA written War of Kings tie-in was less than stellar.
July 7, 2009 12:10 pm I could really do with not having Ra's involved though. I was hoping his ressurection storyline had put him on the shelf for awhile. Oh well I guess with 25 bat books you have to pull out just about every villain to give someone to fight.
July 7, 2009 12:07 pm So Starro the Conqueror is actually Mum-Ra? Does that mean Vril Drox will recruit the Thundercats to help him win? Or is that what the cat guy from the Omega Men is supposed to represent?

@vadamowens

In that issue of GL Corps Scar (the screwed up Guardian) unleashes the some power from the book of death looking thing she has been reading from. Also, the two GL's that were sent out into the universe to see what the freak is going on encounter the dead rising when they find the husk of the Anti-Monitor which is now the Black Lantern power battery.

@drakedangerz

You might be kidding but according to the interviews I've read with Johns this actually is a good time to jump on. He said that a lot of people started at the beginning of Sinestro Corp and that he made Blackest Night #1 as new reader friendly as humanly possible.

Honestly though you really don't need to know that much. The Green Lanterns are space police who control the green side of the emotional spectrum which represents willpower. There are now other "Corps" that represent the rest of the ROYGBIV rainbow of colors and emotions. They must now all fight. There you are now ready for Blackest Night.

July 2, 2009 1:34 pm Listening now. So glad you guys decided to do this and with such a great book to boot.

This was good once they got the half-ass explanation of how Steve is still around out of the way. I don't care if Brubaker had it planned from the beginning or not, a gun that makes him jump around in time is just stupid.

But I do think the scenes of him jumping around were executed very well. However, that might only be in comparison to the craptastic art and coloring that came before it. The Cap book proper has been doing the darker coloring since the beginning, but this was just overkill.

One nitpick, why did the HAMMER guys have SHIELD badges on their arms?

July 1, 2009 1:30 pm This was just mediocre. The story was a good wrap up to the previous issues, but the art was just horrendous and uneven. Since when does Kilowog have a huge beer belly?
