Oh OK so THIS is what a comic book arc is like when McDuffie gets to write his own story without the dirty fingerprints of management all over it.
Full disclosure, I really don't care for Vixen. She's not bad and I have no good reason to dislike her, I just don't. That being said I have thoroughly enjoyed this arc on Justice League. It did the job well of getting Vixen out of the hole that she had been thrown in with the leeching of others powers, so now maybe we can move on from her pity party.
This truly felt like an episode or two of Justice League Unlimited brought to the page. It had enough action and comedy to keep my interest and I can be a sucker for alternate reality tales. The reference to Hawk being in the same outfit as the future version of John Stewart and Hawkgirl's kid from JLU was kind of cool. However, the whole sequence with Black Power and the C.P.T. joke had to be my favorite set of panels in a long time. It had me spitting milk out my nose from last week. I'm not sure how I felt about the power of the black man coming from a fat white guy's belly, but for now I'll just take it as an homage to blacksploitation books and films.
I also kind of got a hint of an Aztek like vibe from this issue with the warning of a great evil coming that only Vixen, by being true to herself, can handle. I'm sure we won't see it for quite awhile as I am fairly sure they are not talking about Final Crisis, but I am wrong every once in awhile.
This was a very well done and fun arc. I hope DC will let McDuffie's freak flag fly so he can continue to give us some more interesting stories and, hopefully, make JLA the flagship book it once was.
