Chilling, absolutely chilling.
That's all that I can say about this issue, ok well not all since I could have just left a comment saying that and instead I'm writing a review.
For starters props to Kirkman for stuffing in more story progression in a single issue than he has in the past five combined. That's not to say the last five haven't been great, but they were more character oriented than overall story oriented.
This issue gets the group firmly on the road again and also splits them up so Rick, his son and the new guy can head back to Rick's hometown where he has the keys to the police storage locker with plenty of supplies. They say the whole trip will take two days if all goes well but come on people, the is the Walking Dead. When do things ever go well?
Suffice it to say the scene that follows with the bandit skinheads getting the jump on Rick and the crew alone on the road was full of more dread and suspense than almost any horror movie I have ever seen. It is not very often that the characters dying in this book is the last thing you're worried about. I know I checked the spoiler box but I just can't ruin this for you.
Also, read the beginning of the letters column at the end. Kirkman does a great job of describing how not every issue fills him with "glee" and how he got chills writing this one.
Go read this issue. Even if you buy it by the trade, go ahead and pick this issue up with number nine today. It is worth the $2.99 you'll spend and then some.
