a few somewhat current recommendations-

Immortal Iron Fist-5 trades 1st three by Brubaker&Fraction art by Aja are amazing and the last 2 by Swierczynski are also great but the previous creators set the bar very high.

Captain Britain & MI13-3 trades by Cornell and Kirk, a fantastic series that was a lot of fun with a wonderful group of characters done very well, so very unfortunate it got the canceled after 15 + 1 annual.

Inhumans- 1 trade by Jenkins and Jae Lee, this book has amazing writing with even better art.Personally, it left me in awe of Black Bolt and his Inhumans and how truly powerful they are.

also Thor Blood Oath, Planet Hulk, and Warren Ellis' Thunderbolts

some classics that don't need an explanation-

X-Men The Dark Phoenix Saga- 1 trade Claremont & Byrne

Wolverine Weapon X- 1 trade by Barry Windsor-Smith

Amazing Spider-Man Kraven's Last Hunt- 1 trade by Dematteis $ Zeck

Sweet Tooth#2- cool cover with a dark tone by Lemire, looks like its goin to be a long road for Gus.

Batman Confidential#34- Francisco Mattina + Batman= an amazing cover.

X-Babies#1-Got to pick this cover by Skottie Young, cuz it just makes me smile.

i got to throw out some honorable mentions too- Astonishing#31 Variant By Travis Charest is also fantastic and then Zodiac#3 By Nathan Fox, i really enjoyed this mini, i thought Fox's style was unique and quite good, i hope to see more of it.

October 1, 2009 2:28 pm My top pick pick is Shang-Chi B&W, I like Parillo's deadpool and the old-school converse that Shang-Chi is sportin. Then id have to go Sinister Spider-Man, bloated "Spider-Man" eating skyscrapers happy as a clam is sweet. Also I really liked Bad Dog's cover. Theres maybe some better covers this week but the hands that were reaching for Lou and the "people" on the caution sign made me very curious to what happened in this issue, so much so it was the first issue i read when i got home.Plus Diego Greco is an amazing artist and i hope once Bad Dog is over he gets another gig somewhere..
September 29, 2009 5:37 am @rando- i was pretty excited about this as well for this wednesday, however, per diamond-  Thunderbolts #137 (AUG090507) will be: $3.99 and 48 pages, not $2.99 and 32 pages; written by Rick Remender and illustrated by Mahmud Asrar; and feature a cover by Francesco Mattina that was originally scheduled for Thunderbolts #136. The original cover to Thunderbolts #137 will now be the cover to Thunderbolts #136...........oh well, i dont mind going ahead reading the finale to this fantastic story arc by Diggle.
