The Best of the Week in… Covers (10/28/09)

Here are my picks for my favorite covers of the week.  Commence the comments!

Guardians of the Galaxy #19
cover by Alex Garner

I don’t normally go for these painted covers, but, if I’m being completely honest, I’ve got a Kang thing.  And that is one big Kang.  And it is glorious.

Ender’s Shadow #2
cover by Timothy Green II

You might be wondering what it is about this cover that made me pick it, and this very well applies to my personal reading history.  I’ve read every single Ender book out there, and that right there, on that cover, is Bean.  When reading these novels, it can be hard to picture them as the little kids they’re supposed to be, and Bean is among the toughest to visualize, and this cover does exactly that.  I immediately knew it was Bean, and clearly he’s a little skinny kid, and I just think that’s really neat.

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? #5
cover by Brett Weldele

This one is by Surrogates artist Brett Weldele, and it has a giant sheep head standing ominously behind a man.  It simply makes me laugh.  That sheep is so menacing!  Fear the sheep!

Comments

  1. Ya that’s certainly Bean.  Beans the best.

  2. Is that Bug from the Micronauts in Guardians of the Galaxy?  Talk about a blast from the past.

  3. I like that Electric Sheep cover.  It makes me want to eat lamb chops.

  4.

Best of the Week in Cover… imho

    Arkham Reborn #1 (of 3)

Ambush Bug Year None #7 (of 6)

  5. When I saw the Androids cover i was like wow that looks like the detecyive from surrogates lolmakes sense now

  6. What’s the difference in the Ender’s comics? There’s Ender’s Game and Ender’s Shadow that have been coming out at the exact same time, plus what’s with the little box that says "Actual Ender’s Game" like there’s a generic version floating around. I’m just curious.

  7. Is anyone reading the Androids Dream book? How is it?

  8. @Nate. I think it’s just a thing to let people know that Orson Scott Card approves of that product and it’s not just… well, I’m not quite sure.

  9. @Nate – They’re all different stories.  The Ender’s Shadow books are about a different character, and some of them occur concurrently to the Ender books.

  10. My favorites…

    1. X Necrosha Variant!…This cover so damn awesome…made to look like The Lost Boys Movie poster..on of my favorite movies of all time.

    2. Incredible Hercules#137- a very nice cover done by Rafael Alberquerque…quickly becoming one of my favorite artists..

    3. Arkham Reborn#1- well done by Irving…very cool looking…

    runners up-Madame Xanadu #16 and Anti-Venom#2

  11. You know you got a great comic when Kang is on the cover. Seriously.

Dark Reign: The List-Punisher had a great Romita Jr cover. Plus Arkham Reborn had an interesting design, although it reminds me of Dave Johnson’s cover of Punisher MAX from a couple of arcs ago.

  12. I gotta a fever, and the only prescription….is more Kang!

  13. after hearing a bit more about Orson Scott Card, I can’t justify giving that man any of my money.

  14. Loved the cover for Unknown Soldier this week, Dave Johnson is unbelievabe

  15. The novel versions of enders game and enders shadow were relased at differnt times, but I always got the impresion OSC wanted to see what it would be like to combine the two.  He sort of gets that releasing these two comics in roughly chrological order to each other.  I’ve also heard that the screenplays that OSC has been sending around hollywood have the two stories combined.

  16. Best cover for me — Northlanders! Followed closely by the alternate Detective cover (that I scored!)

  17. "Fear the sheep!" should be the next "Mayhem!"

  18. Bean rocked, especially what  his character ended up becoming.

  19. Of the above? Androids.  My favorite of the week is the Superman cover.  Can’t really describe it, just thought the art was beautiful.
