This book is a love letter to Jack Kirby, plain and simple. On that front, this book scores an A . The art is a reminiscent and faithful while still being modern and fresh. Oh, and it is goregous. Absolutely goregeous.

I can already tell that The drawback of this book, for some readers, will be that it is very uncomplicated. This is not to say that the book is not well written or boring. It is neither of those things. It is just really straight forward and written in an efficient manner. We are introduced to the main characters, their personalities and their relationships with an economy of words. The book moves along at a good pace and throws very few curve balls at the reader.

This uncomplcated style, far from being a weakness, is the book’s greatest strength. The simple plot alows for all the crazy Kirby-esque ideas to come to the forefront of the readers attention. And, there are some WEIRD creatures and ideas in this book! Likewise, by not needing to focus overly on the story, the reader is able to soak up and really appreciate the art. I want to especially mention the coloring on this book, which was truly excellent.

I am giving this book 5 out of 5. Based on what is on the page and in this issue, it probably earned a 4.5. However, the potential for this book, and where I hope it will go in the future, necessitates that I give it a 5. This book is not going to be for everyone, but for those people who have a Kirby itch that needs scratching, this book will be very welcome because there simply isn’t another book on the market that is like this book.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
