UNCANNY X-FORCE #1

AGES, PART 1

Wolverine promised Cyclops that X-Force would disband — he lied. A secret society has resurrected En Sabah Nur, putting into motion events that will turn this age of heroes into an Age of Apocalypse! To hold them back, Wolverine and Archangel bring together Fantomex, Deadpool, and Psylocke to form The Uncanny X-Force! Stained by their history, they are the only ones capable of making the hard resolutions necessary. A band of likeminded friends and mercenaries set to one purpose, one big ugly task — kill Apocalypse by any means.

  1. So excited for this book.  I’ve been waiting for something by this creative team since they left The Punisher.    I also loved the Talksplode that the site had with Remender.  Great interview.  I couldn’t stop laughing.  Anyway, ever since then I have been excited for this book.

  2. How do you sell me on X-Force when I’ve never picked it up in my life? Put this creative team on it, that’s how.

  3. I finally decided to drop Xmen:Legacy so I guess I have room on my pull list to give this a try.  I think it’s going to awesome!

  4. Remender writing Fantomex and Deadpool. This is so right in so many ways.

  5. @ato220 – I loved the Talksplode they had with Remender; that said, I have not seen, nor heard another interview with the guy that was nearly that frenetic/cocaine-fueled. I wonder if he gave up caffeine shortly after.

  6. I’m interested in this. Although I wish they had one of the colorists from Fear Agent. Opena’s art look awesome in that. I’ll wait to comment further. But it looks like another case of crappy Marvel coloring.

  7. Yep, this looks to be the best book with deadpool in it to hit the stands in a long time. In fact, this basically just looks like pure awesome.

  8. I’m thinking this cast needs about 20% less Deadpool and about 20% more Warpath, but oh well.  Apocalypse will be a big part of the first arc so that’s good.

it just reminds me of how awesome he was in the 90’s animated series.  "I bring the purity of oblivion to your world!"  how do you argue with that?  how?

  9. I have no idea how this series is gonna go but I’ll tell you one thing:

I’m in it to see just how badly this could all go. I could drop this right afterwards but I’ll be throughly entertained either way for Remender trying to contain Deadpool and Fantomex in the same series.

  10. I want to, but I can’t justify buying this book.

  11. My first X-Force book. Remender comes highly recommended.

  12. I hope Opena sticks around for a long run, I get all excited when he’s drawing a new series then BAM! he’s gona after 6 issues.

  13. This will be my first X-book in a very long time. Looking forward to some straight up fun without all the baggage and interwoven complexities of the other series. Sounds and looks great..im excited.

  14. Still bothers me that they make Wolverine’s eyes red, why?

  15. @Franktiger  Red eyes are the new black

  16. @otto: It was easily my favorite interview.

@TNC: It can’t be worse than the last series, which I loved.

  17. @ Franktiger. Wolverine’s eyes glow red because his mask has infrared lenses. He has been sporting them since the beginning of Cyclop’s X-Force. Deadpool has them as well.

Very excited for Uncanny X-Force Day! X-Force had a good start, but after Necrosha, the series wasn’t so good. Hope that this current book will be a great series. The team lineup is very interesting.

Also why is Havok and Polaris on Djurdjevic’s variant cover? Are they going to be future members of the team. I’ll toast to that.

  18. @XManRyan: Ah, I’ll buy that, good enuf for me, thought it was some arbitrary attempt to make him look more badass, which it really doesn’t.

Havok and Polaris remind me of the Maurauders days and Silvestri, did they return from outer space?

  19. @ Franktiger. Havok and Polaris still have not returned from space. They were last seen heading towards earth along with Rachel Summers and Korvus in this series called Realm of the Kings which took place after King Breaker and War of Kings events.

  20. the Djurdjevic cover is part of the interlocking X-Men piece that a few other X-titles have had corresponding pieces of.  sadly, I don’t believe it means a return fro Alex and Lorna.

  21. I’ve never read a SINGLE X-Force issue before so I sure hope it is not hard to understand what the hell is going on here!!

  22. @TexasZombie99  I feel the same way.  I love his art, but he doesn’t seem to stay on a book long enough.  When he goes, i do also.  Remender’s writing isn’t enough to keep me in.

  23. Avatar photo PymSlap (@alaska_nebraska) says:

I am so F*ing excited!! Jerome Opena’s work on Fear Agent is incredicble. I  can’t wait to see how this series colorist amphlifies his drawings.

The line-up on this team is a dream. I’m 28. The original X-Force was one of my favorite series. I loved watching Deadpool kick the shit out of Cable’s X-Force, and now he’s on X-Force?! Holy shit!

I didn’t love Wolvie’s X-Force costume at first, but now I think it’s so scary! The glowing red-eyes really look sick with the adamantium claws! I lovex Morrison’s X-Men, and now they’ve got the sexy Psyloche, too?! OMG!

Fear Agent rules, so does Marvel. I wish this series the best of luck and hope Spider-Man guest-stars soon!

  24. This is going to be my first X-men comic. I’m an indie reader and have always been hesitant on starting into super hero comics because of the complex back stories but I’m going to give this a shot.

  25. This was really disappointing as a whole.

Remender has a good voice for Deadpool/Fantomex but their banter got old really fast. The other characters were also not that fun to read either. In fact, it’s funny how Wolverine is labeled the leader in the ads but it clearly looks like Angel is the leader here. Then you have the art where; and I know this is gonna be controversial but; I did not enjoy as much. When the action got heavy Opena is a real talent; but if it’s talking heads (and there is alot of that here) then you see a lot of mistakes. Inking and face designs are his big problems. The problem is that the premise is interesting enough but the characters just don’t gel together. Maybe one more issue to see if this can pick it up, but I won’t be surprised if I drop it afterwards.

    2.5/5

  26. I can’t wait to see Remender playing with the toys in the X-box. I liked Kyle and Yost’s X-Force, but I am a bit tired of the red-eyed demon team look.

  27. I like his references to ole 80’s/90’s plots, such as Ship from X-Factor.  Gotta say I loved that reveal.  Not crazy about Deadpool and Fantom X being on the team, but I do get the idea that every member has been manipulated against their will in some way.  Opena’s art is awesome as always as well.  It would be nice if he stuck with a book for a while and not hop to another arc on another book.

  28. This series is going to be too good for words. The art is flawless in every sense of the word, and I love the team dynamic that was set up here. A real treat.

  29. Good read.  I like having oddballs like Deadpool and Fantomex on the team because it lightens up the tone and keeps the issue from being just misery and death.  The art is lovely.  I asume Opena will be alternating arcs at the least so I’m curious who they’ll bring on next.   I’m on board for now.

I’ve only read a little bit of X-Men over that past couple years.  When I started reading the summary of the previous series I just got really confused and realized I don’t care.  Onward, I say.

  30. I will say though that Deadpool’s opening joke made me laugh…..maybe a bit too much but still.

  31. If Havok and Polaris join up, I’d welcome it. They would be my only reason to collect this series.

  32. This book is definately not for me.  God I wish the keys could’ve been handed to Kyle, Yost, and Carey on the x-books

  33. @cutty I don’t know why, but I can’t stand Carey on x-books.  I loved the shit out of this book. But I agree that Kyle and Yost should be writing something x-related.  Maybe Kieron can give us something fresh and fun and hopefully fill that void.

  34. This was unbelievably bad. Confusing, boring, pointless and tedious. Nice art but so what?

    Avoid, avoid avoid!

  35. @vadamowens – Admittedly, I’m still reminiscent on Carey’s pre-Messiah Complex run – Issues #188 to 204 or so.  I probably give him to much credit because I loved those 2 years, I have not been a fan since the Legacy title started.

I still feel like he’d kill it if given a real team to work with.  He gets the characters, which is probably a little too important to me.  That’s why I can’t stand Morrison’s run or Fraction.

  36. Didn’t really get the whole Deadpool taking a nose dive and landing on his feet thing, he can’t really do that strictly speaking; think Remender was a little too in love with the nose dive scene, and didn’t know Fantomex could do that kind of mind control, which was taken to sorta a ridiculous level with how he blew up that statue warrior, which was inexplicably back to life at the end of the issue.

Didn’t know Betsy was bangin Warren either, but the whole Angel/Archangel dichotomy concept is intriguing, and how Psylocke would be involved in all that is interesting; but I do agree with TNC’s comments in that Opena’s art didn’t exactly blow me away, and in my opinion, he doesn’t draw Psylocke hot enuf.

  37. This is my first crack at an X Book so it was a little confusing, but I love Remender and the Opena art is stunning.  While numbered as a first issue, it still felt like being thrown into the middle of a story and tha’s okay with me.  I’m going to stick with it for awhile and see.
