Previously on X-Force, at the end of the Messiah Complex storyline, Cyclops puts together a secretive black ops team to hunt down and kill off enemies of the mutant race. After the mutant hating android Bastion was eliminated by Hope the Messiah of their race, Cyclops orders Wolverine to disband X-Force. In secret, Wolverine forms a new team of born killers.
The story opens with Deadpool the Merc with the Mouth (Archangel sends Deadpool on a recon mission in Wolverine: Road to Hell #1) infiltrating an Akkaban temple and finds the clan trying to bring back Apocalypse the immensely powerful mutant villain of the X-Men. Suddenly a stone minotaur attacks Deadpool. The scene then moves onto Psylocke and Warren sleeping together. In a dream, Betsy is threatened by Warren's Archangel side and later wakes up from the dream. She tells Warren that his mind will be broken if she completely gets rid of his Archangel persona. Warren replies that he needs her to prevent Archangel from completely taking over him and at the same time he will use Archangel as an advantage to help X-Force.
Angel and Psylocke along with Fantomex and Wolverine arrive at the Akkaban temple. Immediately Wolverine and Psylocke become possessed when they try attacking the giant stone minotaur. Fantomex uses his ability of misdirection to destroy the stone monster. Now a freed Betsy uses her psy-knife to free Wolverine from possession. The team then finds a tied up Deadpool and concludes that they need eliminate Apocalypse once and for all. The final page shows a young boy with glowing purple eyes.
Overall a good read for this relaunched title. In past X-books some characters seem off by the way writers present them within the storytelling. Here Rick Remender has a great grasp on the characters because he stays true to how each member acts and communicates with each other. Although the readers get a dramatic/romantic relationship between Archangel and Psylocke, humor coming from Deadpool, and Fantomex with a very interesting mutant ability into the mix, the plot was a little light for the first issue. Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost's X-Force #1 had a great introduction to the characters, consisted of various conflicts, and included insanely violent action sequences which I think Uncanny X-Force #1 did not have enough of.
As for the artwork, this was the first time I've heard of or seen Jerome Opena's work so this was a delight for me. His detailed penciling on the characters and background scenes were awesome. Also the fabrics of the X-Force uniforms were amazingly drawn from head to toe. Along with the light-dark coloring, his art blends well into the entire mood of the book. His artwork is so fresh to look at that I think it suites X-Force better than the muddy digital paintings from Clayton Crain.
With a great starting plot accompanied by an excellent interior artwork, the first issue of Uncanny X-Force gets a total of 4 stars out of 5.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

i don’t care what anyone says… This book could have consisted of stick figures as long as i still get to read "Look at the girl… She’s the one."…… BOOOM! Loved it. Completely unexpected, and lets not forget GENIUS, way to dispose of the horseman of war. Sure it was quick… but who’ll argue?
I want to like this but I’m just not familiar enough with the villain.
