    1. Oh man, I will be scared to look … but I will. I think this is the best time EVER to be reading Batman books!

    2. Francavilla is back! Anyone know for sure if this is his last issue before moving to swamp thing after the reboot.

    3. I know what you mean.

The last issue of this series broke my heart. I knew not to trust James Jr, but I really wanted to believe he
was a good person, with some issues. When he looked in the mail box outside the Wolfe house, my guy said stop reading, but I didn’t.

It was exactly like the ending of Dexter season 4. I knew it was going to upset me (in the way a really great story can) and dispite myself I kept going.

Snyder and Lemire are my must reads into the relaunch. They keep delivering the punches to the gut that bring me back agian and again.

    4. Even though last issue’s ending didn’t wow me too much, I am pumped for another Francavilla issue. Plus Snyder will make this fucked up to read…..So it’s got that going for it.

    5. @JaqueNargg I believe Francavilla is also doing 880, then splitting the art chores on 881 with Jock.

    6. The last page of the last issue was one of the greatest hooks I’ve ever read in comics. It’s certainly making me beg DC for more.

    7. The last all-Francavilla issue was my favorite of the run so far. So I’m really looking forward to this.

    8. Yes. Jim Gordon, Snyder, and Francavilla make an excellent comic brew.

    9. As it has been for this whole Snyder/Jock/FF team-up this will be on the top of my pile this week. So excited this is a bi-monthly now. And yeah I know it’s for only 4 issues in a row… people call me an optimist 😀

    10. @Zeppo  – I am there with you. What a heartbreaker. I wanted James Jr. to be so good that I gave the story 4/5 instead of 5/5, which it deserved.

    11. If James Jr. turned out to be good…there would be no story. 😉 But, yeah, I hope he performs some sort of redeeming act by the end of the story. Of course, if that happens then he’ll probably sacrifice himself to save his father. That’s kinda how these sort of stories work out. So, I’m calling it now: James Jr. will die saving his father from…the Joker?

    12. @Zeppo  Yes! There are two names right now that have blind buying power with me, and those are Snyder and Lemire.

    13. Francavilla has become my favorite (regularly) working artist, so I am delighted that he’s really hit the big time.  Who knows how the reboot will turn out, but Snyder, Jock, and Francavilla are really tying this current era up with a bang!

    14. Detective IS great comic brew.  I don’t want it to end.  I wonder if Snyder will adjust his story telling technique when he takes over Batman.  His style is so perfect for “Detective” comics.

    15. This is building to be the greatest Detec runs ever.  All the 2nd storeis have lead to this.  How is Jim going to deal with this………..This and Deluxe Hush in the same week,  the Bat Gods must love us.

    16. I’ve always loved Batman but Snyder is doing something very special with this title. I can’t wait to see how everything plays out and then reread it and share it with others.

    17. I mean this comic, seriously. Insane.

    18. My POTW.

Snyder writes a fucking amazing Joker and I can’t wait to see more of it. Plus the art by Francavilla? Pure genius.

      5/5 (POTW)

    19. This was an amazing issue. Jokers dialogue gave me chills. This book is getting better and better every issue, which leads me to believe after each issue that it couldn’t possibly get better next issue. But it does each time. I missed the last arc with JG JR, so I feel a little lost on the key thing. I did like the “nods” with the names on the different keys. Another great issue.

    20. This was very good, and the Joker scenes were suitably chilling, but am I the only one who felt like last issue’s reveal sucked some wind out of this story? No more mystery, no more tension, just a rather routine super-villain story. The art and the Joker make this book something special, but I guess I had higher hopes for the Jame Jr. storyline.

    21. @CaseyJustice  For me this brought the tension which the last issue didn’t.

    22. This was my POTW hands down. It reminded me of how much I miss Gotham Central.

    23. My POTW week as well. Francavilla is becoming one of my favorite artist. Read on twitter that he will be doing some issues of Swampthing with Snyder. Great stuff.

    24. comic shop didn’t get in today but the final page in last month’s issue was enought for me.

    25. i cant remember a detective ever being better than it is now!  snyder is the fuckn’ man!  im a fan 4life.  and the art is awesome!  jock and francavilla are outstanding!  cant wait for the next issue!

    26. SPOILER!!!

Can someone remind me…what is the significance of the bat key Gordon finds on the last page?

    27. it was a key that belonged to a friend of barbaras who was killed if memory serves me right

    28. a childhood friend of bab’s.  it lets us know that james jr has been up to no good just about his entire life.  it had been long debated whether or not james jr had anything to do with the murder

    29. @froggulper  – There is nothing Jim Jr. can do to redeem himself.

Lucky for Gordon, the reverse flash f***cked with the time-line, or else he would have to shoot himself for having a son like that.

The Joker in this issue is the best Joker I’ve read since Morrison’s “ A Serious House on Serious Earth”.

    30. If not for the last page of last issue, this one would have been a 5 star book.

    31. I just noticed that the box is filled to the brim with keys…..Man Scott Snyder has a fucked up mind. 🙂

    32. @TheNextChampion  – I dont have the issue in front of me, but I think one of the keys is tagged “Snyder”. Pretty crazy,

    33. Another awesome issue!! Is this book getting better and better every month or what? Another POTW for Tec for me.

    34. @amircat Both snyder and francavilla have keys in the box.

Is that the key to the magic set or whatever the box was in that earlier issue involving babs friend?

    35. @ed209AF

    36. @ed209AF  yes, that is the key that was in issue 875 with Babs and Bess as girls.

    37. @CaseyJustice  who said the James story is over? 🙂

    38. @ssnyder1835  I loved the heck out of this Scott! 875 is still my favorite issue of the year but you and your Detective art team continue to please. Looking forward to more!

    39. @ssnyder1835  Thank you.  I love this book.

    40. I wonder how DC is collecting Snyder’s arc on this book with the reboot coming right after. Amazon says that the hardcover will be around 288 pages, so will it be collecting Snyder’s entire run on Detective? Issues 871-881?

    41. Best Detective has been in years…Very creepy story, great Batman, great Gordon, great art…Can’t wait to see it collected!

    42. Check out the Scott Snyder interview on Panel Culture Episode 9 this week!  He talks about everything he is working on.  No disrespect to ifanboy… The Panel Culture podcast is like ifanboy light.

    43. Man, this was a great, great issue. Everything about it was fantastic. Seriously messed up, but fantastic. Hope the reboot doesn’t hinder Mr. Snyder in what he can do on Batman.
