Let me start off by saying that I am returning to DC after a long break. I have stuck to Vertigo for a long time but I figured this would be a great time to get back into it.

I thought this was a solid start for such an epic project. It is no easy task to be the cornerstone of a world that is going through so many changes. They ended up finding a good balance between giving us a taste of this new world without becoming bogged down by the burden of revealing everything. Some might find the pace a little slow but I though the quiet moments were nice.

The energy for this story seemed very youthful and well kind of sassy. Everybody had a good deal of attitude. That was fun for the first issue but I do hope the team becomes more grounded. If every hero comes in with this “I’m top dog” bravado it will start to get old quickly.

One last note, I thought the art was great. This may not be the best Jim Lee has ever done but you can tell he is bringing his top game for this comic. The action scenes flowed well, the details were great and the facial expressions were smashing. (LOVE Batman’s smirk!)

I am excited to read more of this one and if this is a sign for things to come than it seems DC made the right choice with their grand restart.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 4 - Very Good
