I never do this, but I’m writing a review for once. That’s because, thanks to DC’s new digital policy, I was actually able to read this book on the Wednesday it was released. I’m out of my mind excited for this change. It means that I can finally keep up with the weekly releases in a way that is easy and convenient for me. Not having a local store is a pain.
That said, let’s get to the book itself, which was well-worth it. Justic League is a fantastic-looking, fast-paced first issue. It sets the tone for the new universe in a brilliant way. It feels familiar and new at the same time. I’d describe it as the kind of feeling you get watching a property become a movie. You know the peices but you get to see them put together in a new way for a different audience. Lots of people will be annoyed at the blank slate, but I like that. It allows for pure storytelling. It’s not a sequel to an 80s event or a fill-in-the-blank tale. It’s just the story of how these guys met and formed the Justic League. There’s honestly not much to the story. Batman chases an alien, meets Green Lantern, goes to see Superman. But it’s elegant in its simplicity. It just moves from one point to another telling us what this world is like and who these people are. If there’s a problem it’s that I wanted more.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. I’m sorry to say but it was way too short for a first issue….too many ads and not enough story line….art was good thanks to Jim Lee but way too short. And for the price tag of $3.99; man I remember paying $1.50 back in the day for more pages and a better story line. If this is the way DC is redoing this relaunch…..oh boy! Not going to bother with book # 2.

  2. $1.50 twenty years ago versus $3.99 today? According to inflation what cost $1.50 in 1991 would cost $2.37 in 2010. So, comic prices are only a little higher than they used to be. As for ads, well the digital version doesn’t have them.

  3. Technically price has gone down from a year ago. 3.99 comics used to get you 22 pages. This one is 24 plus backmatter.
