September 1, 2013 2:29 pm I know I'm late to comment, but hadda say that Terror's passing was the biggest gut punch the Boys gave me, and they gave me a lotta gut punches
July 17, 2013 10:24 pm I find it interesting that the WW and GL movies weren't followed up on more, supposedly from "disappointing" sales, and yet they seem to be very strong sellers...I also notice that sales are good when the source material is good and then is interpreted well..DKR would seem to have low sales, until you factor in that they milked it with two movies, and probably lost some people there...I mean, I loved it, I'm genuinely surprised it didn't sell better, but... I've liked almost every movie, with some of them being really good. I can't help but wonder how these new ones, coming from weaker source material, will do.
May 25, 2013 6:21 pm Gotta say, Jamie McKelvie is really doing some stuff...his design ideas are amazing...like, Steranko-level amazing. And, yeah, that Daredevil cover is beyond good. For some reason, I have a feeling it'll be overlooked award-wise, but I think it'll ultimately be one over the most remembered covers ever.
May 18, 2013 6:21 pm In Snyder's defense, it kinda felt like this was his (tiny) science fiction arc...both issues seemed very gadget-y and fantastical. Feels like the goofy skin misdirect was intentional, and he comes across to me as the kind of writer who throws things like that in without necessarily hitting you over the head with it. Sometimes, he hits you over the head with it, and it might even be awesome (frickin' Owlman!) I dig what you're saying about secret identities, but it's a slippery slope..what's next? No Costume? Dressing like a giant bat is kinda dumb, isn't it? And what about the scary voice? Or him always having the drop on everybody? He's got no superpowers, wouldn't he be the first guy to die facing Darkseid ? Still and all, a very thought provoking article (and pretty daring, considering Bats' current cult status in this post Miller world), thanks for your work.
May 18, 2013 6:14 pm Wow guys, those are some great ideas...why didn't Snyder think of those? I'm not a hater, but sometimes I think he is overrated. But he is a really good writer. I'm serious, the Batcow angle could have worked..and been really clever, done by a smarter writer.
March 11, 2013 11:52 pm This series, and Alias, by Bendis, walked that line like no other, at the big two, anyway. (Incognito, and a few other indies..)
January 26, 2013 4:30 pm Wow, killer week. You see a lot of Batman shots, as time goes by. You see one that grabs you, you make a mental note. Me, personally, I've just made a mental note.
January 22, 2013 10:19 am I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and wonder aloud if Saga is maybe bringing in more new, previously non comic book, readers than the entirety of the new 52...I think grown women who aren't nerds (especially, anyway) are reading Saga. And I think Fiona knows this.
January 12, 2013 3:19 pm I've loved reading batman comics for almost forty years now...and I can say that Mazzucchelli is my favourite Batman artist, one of my favourite artists at all, and Year One is my favourite comic book story. It was fantastically written, but for me the art was...it was beyond cinematic, I could swear sometimes the characters are actually moving. Also, rarely do art and written word sync this perfectly, which is a difficult thing to do, an accomplishment that should be recognized as a skill, not some magical "chemistry"...and it's not like Miller's easy to work with. He also does that cool thing of conveying more with less...kinda like David Aja. Shout outs to Adams (obviously), Marshall Rogers, Brian Bolland, Doug Mahnke and, actually, Greg Capullo. Not trying to flout the rules here, I think my vote is clear, just thanking these guys fer makin' stuff I loved.
January 11, 2013 11:32 pm cheez...picky, picky. People here are generally pretty nice, y'know.
